Waynesboro, Pennsylvania history

In 1863, Waynesboro was occupied by Confederate troops on their way to Gettysburg.

Co. was formed from the old firm of Geiser, Price & Co. and occupied the former Frick shops in 1869.

He founded the Frick Company in 1873.

In 1881 Frick Co. built a new shop in the west part of town adjoining the railroad tracks.

The new plant was so extensive and modern, for that time, that the Scientific American printed a feature article about it.In 1882 their first refrigerating machinery was manufactured.

With their inventive minds they manufactured the first cylindrical grinding machine in 1883.

A great new era in power farming was opened up.In 1885 the partnership was dissolved, and Frick Co. was chartered a Pennsylvania corporation with a capital of one million dollars of which $900,000 was paid in.Since that time the plant grew to occupy 26 acres, employ about 1,000 people.

A. B. Landis then turned his attention to the problems of threading bolts, and his solution to the problem was a new and unique screw-cutting die head for a turning machine, with one being built in 1887.

They formed a partnership in 1889 to manufacture and market the grinder, and six machines were sold in the first year of operation.

In 1892, as the small town of Waynesboro enjoyed an industrial boom, Joseph J. and Myrtle (Funk) Oller built a house on Main Street.

The partnership was succeeded by the Landis Tool Company in 1897 and operated at that location until recently.

Through the mid-1980’s, new management personnel joined the expanding firm.

Starting in 1983, Herbert E. Sandifer and William G. Adams IV joined the firm.

In 1986 the company expanded its operations with an office in Frederick Maryland.

The sale of the company in 1988 restructured the business where the company became Employee Owned.

Since 1996 in addition to Gregory Brown, the Company Officers have been Herbert Sandifer – Exec Vice President, Charles Branchman – Vice President, William Adams IV – Chief Financial Officer, Charles Geesaman – Vice President, and Robert W. Brown serving as Chairman of the Board.

The community, with a current population of 10,568 (2010), had its beginnings about 1749, when John Wallace, a Scotsman, settled by a spring located a few hundred yards west of the Antietam Creek (East Branch).

In 2012 Richard Thomas, Daniel VanGosen, and Cy Geesaman joined the Company Board of Directors.

In 2015 Gary Large, a Virginia Tech Civil Engineer and previously owner of a Commercial Construction company, Parker, Cade, & Large Inc, joined the company management team as a Vice President.
