WCNY company history timeline

1965

WCNY was established on December 20, 1965, by the Onondaga County School Board Association under a charter by the New York State Education Department.

WCNY was launched in 1965 and chartered by the New York State Department of Education as the Public Broadcasting Council of Central New York.

2006

In 2006, WCNY-TV became the first television station in the Syracuse market to produce and broadcast their own programs in high definition.

2013

In 2013, WCNY moved its operations from its longtime home in Liverpool to a new, state-of-the-art Broadcast and Education Center on Syracuse’s Near Westside.

As part of its educational mission, WCNY in 2013 launched Enterprise America, a hands-on experiential learning center for school-aged children.
