Weatherford College company history timeline
Weatherford College, established in 1869, is the oldest continuing public community college west of the Mississippi River.
Meanwhile, at its annual meeting in 1873, the Weatherford District Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South had passed a resolution authorizing the formation of a high school for Granbury and the authority to erect a three-story stone building to house the school.
On May 23, 1885, Phoenix Lodge sold the Masonic Institute to M. C. Brown, and he leased the building to the Methodist church.
In 1921, Weatherford College was reorganized and became a junior college, offering college transfer courses once again.
weatherford_college45dThe Weatherford High School Class of 1964 has established a new permanent scholarship endowment with the Weatherford College Foundation.
Pritchard is a graduate of Aledo High School and 1973 graduate of WC. He was hired by the Weatherford Police Department before he was old enough to buy a gun and checked parking meters until he turned 21.
Dickinson is a 1980 graduate of Weatherford High School and attended WC for three semesters before beginning her now 39-year career at the Jerry Durant Auto Group.
Additionally, expansion into Eastern Parker County is in its early planning stages with the WC Board of Trustees approving in 2008 the purchase of 30 acres adjacent to the property bought by the Aledo ISD. A WC branch campus could be built on that site in the future.
Weatherford College currently has Education Centers in Mineral Wells and Granbury, and the new campus between Decatur and Bridgeport which opened in the fall 2012.
The college celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2019.
WC first attained the status of All-Steinway in 2019 with the purchase of 10 Steinway & Sons pianos through the efforts of a Weatherford College Foundation fundraising campaign.
From humble beginnings in Roswell, New Mexico, he now operates a company of 230 employees that made $260 million in sales in just 2021.
