Qualifications: Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university Valid Speech-Language Pathologist - Assistant Texas License granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology division Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of Habilitation and rehabilitation of speech, language, and hearing disorders Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal skills Ability to travel to multiple work locations as assigned Experience: Minimum of 50 hours observation and direct clinical service as directed by the Assistant's License requirements One year as SLP-Assistant in a school district preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties: Therapy 1. Provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP). * Follow session plans developed by the SLP. * Collaboration with all special education and general education teachers for each student receiving speech therapy services for the purposes of scheduling, monitoring progress and students' communication ability in the classroom Evaluation 4. Provide information about progress to SLP to assist in determining level of progress. * Screen students at teacher/campus request to determine possible referral needs through consultation with SLP * Assist with gathering information for SLP to complete evaluations Consultation 7. Counsel and involve parents in remedial process. * Collaborate with SLP and classroom teachers to implement classroom activities to improve communication skills of students. * Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents regarding the needs of the student. Student Management 10. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students. * Establish control and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. * Billing - complete eSHARS session documentation for SLSP approval in order for the district to obtain reimbursement for services AND assist with obtaining Medicaid consents so that this billing may be completed Communication/Documentation 13.
