Web specialist job description

• 2+ years experience working with enterprise-class Content Management Systems (Sitecore preferred)
• Comfortable working with cross-functional groups, including technical development teams (using Agile methodologies)
• Experience with HTML/CSS for purposes of manipulating visual presentations and styles plus basic understanding JavaScript
• Familiarity with workflow management tools such as JIRA
• Familiarity with Bootstrap
• Familiarity with design and mock up editing programs such as Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/XD or Figma

Mount Mary University is looking for someone using both sides of their brain. We need a webmaster just as comfortable with the IT elements (coding, technical layout, etc) as they are with the creative elements (design, content, etc.)
Details

Plans, develops, and implements changes to new and existing university websites. Ensures accurate implementation of content, visual design, branding, user experience, and content accessibility across university websites. Assists users with edits and modifications to existing websites using university content management systems. Works closely with the IT Services team to assist in the management, administration, and support of campus websites and web servers.


Essential Responsibilities


Responsible for the administration, maintenance, and development of the university's public-facing websites, using the university's content management systems (Hannon Hill's Cascade and WordPress) and additional tools Responsible for the administration, management, and maintenance of instances of the content management systems used by the university
Designs high-quality visual content and creates webpages that are user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing. Post continually changing content and strive for new ways to improve the website's look and performance Work closely with the Senior Director of Marketing and the Senior Director of IT Collaborates with IT Services and external vendors to help maintain and update the technical infrastructure and server needs for the website content management systems Assists with troubleshooting and resolution of web performance issues Manages and monitors web analytics for university websites, and provides analytics reports to university administration Trains and assists end users in other business units with the usage of university content management systems Develops and implements content templates in the university's content management systems


Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


Knowledge of HTML, CSS, XML and Javascript Knowledge of XML coding languages Knowledge of Velocity or XSL coding languages Knowledge of web page template development


Optional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


Knowledge of project planning and development Knowledge of software and hardware implementation processes Knowledge of PHP


Highly Preferred Experience


Previous experience in the design and management of websites using Hannon Hill's Cascade CMS Previous experience administering Hannon Hill's Cascade CMS Experience with implementing SEO Best Practices.


Useful Experience


Previous experience in the design and management of websites using WordPress Previous experience administering WordPress


Useful Technical Experience (currently managed by IT)


Knowledge of managing/administering Ubuntu Linux servers or systems.

Responsibilities:

* Responsible for web publishing to create and implement online content with related taxonomy components.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's with 2 - 5 years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills:

* At least 2 years of experience in taxonomy development that demonstrates growing complexity
* At least 1 year of experience in sharing knowledge on controlled vocabularies with end users (conducting usability testing or focus groups on taxonomy and search; leading training on research using MeSH or similar vocabularies; etc.)
* A demonstrated understanding of web publishing components, including:
* Domain name planning and registration.
* Web hosting.
* Web design and development.
* Promotion.
* Maintenance.
* A demonstrated understanding of the relationships between and uses of taxonomies, thesauri, ontologies, metadata management and application, controlled vocabularies, and authority control
* Superb verbal and written communication skills, and facility communicating effectively with remote colleagues.
* Excellent time management skills, including planning out project tasks and assessing resource needs
* Expert proofreading, organizational, and research skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teammates. Self-disciplined when working alone.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's with 5 - 8 years (or commensurate experience)

Desired Skills:

* Bachelor's degree (Library Science degree a plus)
