Complete all projects, assignments, and duties as directed and instructed by the area supervisor. Take responsibility for the quality of all parts by inspecting and immediately reporting any problems, discrepancies/or irregularities to the supervisor. Follow 5S methodology to keep machines and work area clean, neat and orderly on a daily basis. Assist in training other employees in the welding department. Remain safety conscious at all times, wearing all prescribed personal protective equipment and by observing all safety rules stated in the Employee Handbook. Complete any and all projects, assignments and duties as directed and instructed. Conform to all policies, procedures and rules of conduct as communicated through the Employee Handbook, Bulletin Boards, Newsletters and any other vehicle by which information is distributed by STERIS Management. Job Description Pipe Welder Ship Repair Industry Pay: $29/hr Type: Local & Non-Local Accepted Shifts: 1st & 2nd Shift Available We are seeking a qualified Pipe Welder to join our ship repair team. This position involves executing high-quality welding of piping systems in a marine/shipyard environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate compliance with rigorous fabrication, alignment, and inspection standards typical of ship repair yards. Overall Responsibilities: Interpret and work from blueprints, isometrics, piping drawings, and welding symbols to layout, fit, and weld pipe systems (including carbon steel, stainless steel, copper-nickel, other alloys). Perform TIG (GTAW), Stick (SMAW), and/or appropriate welding processes on pipe systems for steam, fuel, water, air, or other shipboard services. Ensure proper cutting, preparation, beveling, tack welding, root passes, fill-passes and cap welds in accordance with approved procedure specifications. Install pipe supports, brackets, hangers and anchor points; align pipe runs; fit and secure pipe sections in shipboard and shop environments. Job Qualifications * Must be at least 18 years of age. * Must be able to TIG and stick weld on stainless and/or carbon (pipe size and material welded varies per site). * Must pass required weld tests (varies per site). * Must be willing to work outside craft. * Workers are surrounded by hot materials and strong light. * Must wear safety gear, including protective goggles, masks, face shields and safety shoes. * Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly with supervisor/co-workers and understand direction from supervisor. * Utilize basic math and a calculator to solve geometric problems associated with Instrument Fitting. * May be required to work outside and be subject to severe weather as well. * Employee must be able to climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively, operate moving equipment and work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments. * Candidate may be required to pass a drug test and criminal background check based on job location/requirements. * Required Tool List For Pipe Welder: * Must have own TIG Rig and Stinger * 1 each 12" Crescent Wench * 1 each Stinger (whip) for Stick Welding * 1 each Tig Rig w/Hose and Gauges * 1 each 25' Tape Measure * 1 set Burning Goggles * 1 each Chipping Hammer * 1 set Brushes * 1 pair Welding Gloves * 1 pair Leathers (optional) * 1 each Welding Hood and Lens (Must be attached to hard hat or will attach to hard hat) * *No Soft Cap Hoods * Must be at least 18 years of age * Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively. * Work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments * 40 or more hours per week with possible weekend work * Background check and drug screen based on job location/requirements Benefits * We strive to provide a competitive compensation and benefits package. Job Description Posting Name: Welder 1 Schedule: M - T, 5:00 AM - 3:30 PM is located at our Bayou La Batre, AL facility. Join the Birdon team and help ensure USCG boats are safe and reliable! Our Welders are an integral piece of our work on a daily basis. Some of your daily functions will include: Must be able to read blueprints. Must be able to set up own equipment, tack, distribute heat evenly with a clean bead. Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment Mock Weld Test. Possess strong attention to detail in order to aid strong quality assurance program. Excellent math skills with the ability to read a tape measure accurately. Must be able to weld aluminum and carbon steel proficiently. Ability to fix a defected weld. Must be able to weld in any position (uphill, horizontal, vertical, or flat) If you have at least 3 years' experience as a Welder, possess a High School Diploma or GED and fundamental knowledge in marine or manufacturing industry, we want to talk to you!
