PAY Pay Range: 413 Hourly Rate: $21.45 - $33.29 The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City's step placement policy. JOB SUMMARY This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Fleet Services Division of the Utilities Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. The employee must have previously developed welding skills to perform the duties of the position. Essential job functions include: the use of acetylene and electrical equipment to heat, cut, and braze ferrous and non-ferrous metals in accordance with standard trade practices. The nature of this position requires the worker to assume full responsibility for following all procedures related to work safety, safe operation of equipment, and equipment maintenance. The worker receives written and verbal work orders and carries out assignments independently. The work product is inspected for quality and workmanship by the supervisor. VETERANS PREFERENCE Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. WORKING CONDITIONS Primarily inside; occasionally outside exposed to heat, cold, humidity, rain, etc. May work more than 12 feet above ground on objects such as bridges, street signs, etc. Possibility of burns while working with objects such as cutting torches, heated metal, etc. Occasional exposure to conditions such as high concentrations of dust at work sites, fumes from welding rods, and noxious odors when using galvanized metal. Possibility of explosion from gases such as oxygen acetylene, if extra precautions are not exercised. Subject to continuous heavy exposure to ultra rays when operating welding equipment. Note: Typical City employee working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, working hours vary (may require work to begin before 8:00 a.m. and/or end beyond 5:00 p.m., and/or may require work on weekends and holidays), and are subject to change, based on the duties and location of the position and the business needs of the assigned work unit/department. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Strength enough to lift, carry, push or pull objects weighing up to 80 pounds such as acetylene tanks, sheets of metal, etc. Stamina enough to exert oneself physically throughout the day. Flexibility enough to bend, twist, and reach out to perform welding tasks. Balance enough to work from objects such as ladders, platforms, scaffolding, etc. Arm-hand steadiness and manual dexterity enough to use equipment such as power tools, cutting torch, etc. Near vision enough to perform tasks such as welding, cutting, grinding, etc. Hearing and speech enough to communicate clearly and distinctly by two-way radio and in person.
