We are looking to hire a skilled Combination Pipe Welder to join our Mechanical team for ongoing work at Mayport Naval Base, FL. All work is to be performed on the military base and is paid the required Davis-Bacon prevailing wage, specific to the Mayport Naval Base, FL. Our Combination Pipe Welder will be responsible for using hand-welding, flame cutting, hand soldering, or brazing equipment to weld or join metal components. This position will require the ability to pass groove-weld qualification tests in all positions for multiple materials and processes using both Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) as well as Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) as necessary. All work is completed on an active construction site, and in accordance with relevant codes. Work involves technical application of mechanical welding principles. This is all to be done using the appropriate equipment and implementing the required safety practices in support of RQ's Mission, Vision, and Values. Perform repairs to field and shop materials and equipment as required Provide training to others assigned to aluminum shop. Assist Shop Foreman in maintaining materials inventory. Observe and maintain all safety procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures. Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements). Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded. Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces. Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead). Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps. Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws. Maintain and repair equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety. Perform other duties as assigned including mechanics and machining and be subject to temporary assignment with other supervisors or for field work. Report to work as scheduled by the employer and without excessive absenteeism. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications HS Diploma or equivalent 2 years welding experience Valid Driver's License Ability to drive a forklift or learn Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA etc.) Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.) Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.) Attention to detail Proficient in English Willingness to travel for jobsite repairs and fabrication Ability to Pass a Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) a plus Working Conditions Primarily works inside exposed to the elements Requires travel, including overnight outside of employee's home territory Exposed to hazardous materials Exposed to frequent loud noises Exposed to dangerous machinery Generally works five 8-hour days, although overtime may occur Application Process: Post Offer Drug Testing and Background Checks are required.
