Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides feet, inches, fractions, and decimals. Uses table to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions. * Uses plasma torch and oxy-fuel torch to cut steel. Uses jigs made at Sabre/Texas for laying out vang slots and for cutting holes in shafts for inserting hand hole rims, arm mounting simplex, couplings, and other small parts. Wear protective goggles or welding hood to protect eyes from harmful rays. * Moves around round tube or formed shaft as necessary to get into proper position to accurately measure and assemble components described above including standing on elevated platform when necessitated by the size of the shafts. * Uses motorized grinders, motorized buffers, stone grinders, and drills to help assemble pole assembly according to prescribed specifications, codes and drawing. Wears protective face shield and safety glasses to protect eyes and face. * Adjusts welding machine to achieve desired results within parameters of established welding procedures. Changes tips, ceramic cups, and electrodes in plasma torch as needed to achieve desired cutting results. * Finish weld various products of the unit to keep the product moving through the large pole department in a timely manner. Reads and interprets weld symbols. * Uses oxy-fuel torch to preheat parts prior to welding. Read codes and specifications to determine proper temperature and uses instruments provided to measure temperature. * Uses chipping hammer, wire brush, motorized grinder, and motorized wire brush at various times to clean welded areas. * Uses pneumatic drills and magnetic drills to drill and ream various sizes holes in poles as required by the drawing. * Wears protective equipment, including safety glasses, insulated welding gloves, welding cap, leather sleeves, and/or cape, and welding hood for protection against hot metal, arc rays, grinding debris, and other potentially. * Performs visual inspecting and identifies material discrepancies to assure welds have been completed satisfactorily in compliance with applicable drawings and specifications. Uses a weld gauge to measure weld size. * When called for by the drawings and specifications, must produce full-penetration welds as defined by American Welding Society code. Uses air-arc gouger to remove weld defects, and rewelds to meet specifications. * Uses overhead crane to load finished poles into bolsters for transportation out of the pole assembly area. * Welds other products in other areas, using either Flux-Cored Arc Welding or Gas Metal Arc Welding process. * Assist and instructs other welders and fitters when needed to overcome deficiencies in quality and/or productivity. * Additional duties as assigned Position Requirements: * High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred * Must have knowledge of basic shop mathematics, addition, subtraction, fractions, multiplication and decimals. * Proficiency in reading complex prints and specifications. * Must know how to properly use a weld gauge. * Read and write. Assess welded surfaces, structures and components to identify errors. Able to prepare work material and dress weld on product Forklift and overhead crane Experience Follow and enforce strict safety regulations such as wearing PPE (safety glasses, Mask, Steel toe shoes) Able to stand entire shift

Full-time Description Weld manufactured parts and sub-assemblies using various welding methods as appropriate to materials used, while following safety policies and procedures. Duties and responsibilities include but not limited to: Use jigs, fixtures, and assembly blueprints Locate positions and welds parts using TIG and MIG welding equipment as specified in blueprints Adjust welding equipment to desired amperage and wire feed Proficient with various hand tools including but not limited to, TIG welding tools, MIG welding tools, spot welding tools, stud gun, hand grinder, and drill Qualifications/Essential Functions: Able to read and understand blueprints, work instructions, travelers Adept at using small hand and power tools Good paperwork and counting skills Trouble shoot as needed Knowledge of shop measurement Able to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, sit, and stand repeatedly Able to work and interact in a “Team” oriented department Commitment to maintenance of a clean organized and safe work environment. Willingness to assist other departments as directed.
