Job Description Marine Structural Welder
Production welding on a ship or in a shop to support structural repairs and modernization of marine vessels including US Naval Vessels, Military Sealift Command, commercial ships, and more.
Layout, fabricate or repair metal plate and/or structural parts brace them in position within hull of ship for riveting or welding according to specifications.
Measure, mark and install metal plate for cutting per specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, and more.
Fit and weld metal plate in the repair and/or construction of marine vessels and industrial components using gas welding, brazing, arc welding, wire fed welding, or TIG welding process and procedures.
Remove high spots and cut bevels using hand files, portable grinders and cutting torches.
May roll, bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts using shop machinery such as plate rolls, presses, bending brakes, and joggle machines.
Weld components in a flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
Set up welding machines based on the job at hand.
Provide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the given task.
Keep work areas clean and organized and take proper care of all equipment and facilities.
Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Candidate Requirements:
Must have 5 years of recent experience working in a shipyard as a structural welder.
Must be able to pass all administered tests prior to being hired for the position.
Must possess a good general knowledge of ship repair procedures and test requirements.
Must possess a working knowledge of SMAW & FCAW techniques.
Must be able to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence.
Must have a working knowledge of ship repair terminology and ship compartment naming convention.
Must be physically and medically capable to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the job as prescribed under OSHA standards. PPE may include hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.

Job Description
Phillips Tank & Structure (PTS) is no ordinary tank construction company. We specialize in the complex and fast-paced environment of tank repair on a nationwide scale. No two tanks are alike, so when they need repair, they often pose unique or complicated technical issues. Our experienced engineering staff are well-versed in API 650, API 653, AWWA D100, AWWA D103, API 12D, and other tank specifications.
We build and repair welded above-ground storage tanks (ASTs), bolted tanks, and related structures. We also inspect, install, and repair tank systems such as aluminum geodesic dome covers, aluminum internal floating roofs (IFRs), IFR mechanical shoe seals, liquid level gauges, fire protection systems, silo support structures, industrial storage tanks, and heating and insulation systems.

Day to Day Duties:
Performing arc and torch cutting and gouging.
Using generators, compressors, tuggers, blowers, grinders, and other power and air tools.
Welding plate with 7018, 7024 and 6010 stick (SMAW), flux core (FCAW), and submerged arc automatic machines (3 o'clock and “goat”/tractor).
Using come-alongs, hydraulic jacks, hoists, air bags, winches, and other lifting equipment.
Using tank shell buggies, tank scaffolding, tank ladders, and other specialty equipment.
Performing vacuum box tests, oil tests, dye penetrant tests, and other non-destructive quality examinations.
Using gas monitors, fresh air kits, respirators, emergency rescue kits, and other safety equipment.
Operating forklifts, man lifts, boom lifts, and other large lifting equipment.
Knowledge of crane operations (including rigging and signaling)
Reading detailed erection and fabrication drawings.
Planning the sequence and methods of fitting up, welding, repairing, and constructing tanks.
Completing job safety analysis, safety audits, site-specific training, and other safety training.
Follow directions and work professionally with other crew members. \
Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / DUTIES

Certified for all P-2 piping
All welding must pass ndt's
Fit and Tack parts together in preparation for welding
Perform precise fitting work on components
Running lines and leads
Blueprint reading and interpret weld symbols
Must adhere to a promote ALL company safety policies. Wear all required PPE when in Production areas and promote a clean and safe work environment.
Ensure that employees assigned with Firewatch duties are in place and ready prior to begin hot work

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The Pipe Welder JM2 must be able to meet and successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The following physical demands are representative to the position.
The position is active and requires extensive standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, stooping, crawling, climbing, and crouching. Along with such movements, employee is required to lift parts/machinery of up to 75 pounds. Additional demands are listed below:

POSITION TYPE / HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week. Schedule is Monday- Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. / 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (swing shifts dependent on work load). Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required based on production needs.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must be certified Pipe Welder
Must have a minimum of 1-2 years of ship repair experience and/or skill set.
Must be able to speak and understand Basic English
