The Pipe Welder will participate in the installation or maintenance and inspection of HVAC, Utility and Process piping systems. Regular attendance at assigned location; may include the A/Z fabrication facility or other project sites; Works on systems that include Heating Hot Water, Chilled Water, Steam, Condensate, Compressed Air, Process Fluids, Chemical, Fuel Oil, Gasses, and other related systems; Works with materials that include carbon steel, stainless steel, plastics, fiberglass, copper, (brazed, soft soldered and pro-press); Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding. Remove rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers. Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment. Weld pipe and components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions using open root butt weld, socket weld and/or fillet weld. Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding. Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment. About the Opportunity: The Welder II - TIG joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques and operating various welding equipment. Location: Manchester, CT This role will be onsite 100% of the time. Responsibilities: Operate welding equipment to fabricate and assemble materials based on job specifications. Welding processes include, but not limited to, Tig, Plasma, Fusion, Resistance, Auto, Electron-beam, and Stud. Set up welding equipment based on job specifications Maintain welding equipment Read and interpret blueprints and/or drawings to determine the specific welding requirements Check welds visually and dimensionally with precision measuring instruments for conformance to blueprints and specifications Responsible for the manufacture and maintenance of component parts and fixtures as required Consistently maintain specific tolerances and accurately perform dimensions Check parts using specified gages or check parts using furnished fixtures to see that dimensions are being maintained. Maintain a neat and orderly work area. Adhere to all company policies and procedures. Follow all applicable safety rules and precautions. Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent 3 years relevant experience working with a variety of metals, including Titanium metals Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis without sponsorship now or in the future. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Have working knowledge of shop geometry and trigonometry. Manual Dexterity: To practice as a welder safely and efficiently, you need to have excellent manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination to be able to perform the complex physical maneuvers required for many welding jobs. Detail Oriented: When completing a project, a welder MUST be very detail oriented, thorough in their work, and not overlook anything that could have larger, unwanted, and even dangerous effects. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals Knowledge of Welding Techniques: A great welder will have in-depth knowledge about the different welding techniques such as metal art, oxy-fuel, flux core arc, and gas tungsten arc welding. Physical Requirements: Requires mobility in a manufacturing plant environment while using Personal Protective Equipment. Must be able to frequently sit, stand and walk. Job Description Phillips Tank & Structure (PTS) is no ordinary tank construction company. We specialize in the complex and fast-paced environment of tank repair on a nationwide scale. No two tanks are alike, so when they need repair, they often pose unique or complicated technical issues. Our experienced engineering staff are well-versed in API 650, API 653, AWWA D100, AWWA D103, API 12D, and other tank specifications. We build and repair welded above-ground storage tanks (ASTs), bolted tanks, and related structures. Day to Day Duties: Performing arc and torch cutting and gouging. Using generators, compressors, tuggers, blowers, grinders, and other power and air tools. Welding plate with 7018, 7024 and 6010 stick (SMAW), flux core (FCAW), and submerged arc automatic machines (3 o'clock and “goat”/tractor). Using come-alongs, hydraulic jacks, hoists, air bags, winches, and other lifting equipment. Using tank shell buggies, tank scaffolding, tank ladders, and other specialty equipment. Performing vacuum box tests, oil tests, dye penetrant tests, and other non-destructive quality examinations. Using gas monitors, fresh air kits, respirators, emergency rescue kits, and other safety equipment. Operating forklifts, man lifts, boom lifts, and other large lifting equipment. Knowledge of crane operations (including rigging and signaling) Reading detailed erection and fabrication drawings. Planning the sequence and methods of fitting up, welding, repairing, and constructing tanks. Completing job safety analysis, safety audits, site-specific training, and other safety training. This position includes enrollment in our 20-week, Arc & Flame Training Program in Rochester, NY. The $11,000 training cost is covered. Compensation and benefits begin at the start of your training date. Performs all position welding on an assortment of structures and weldments in accordance with code requirement, alignments and dimensional specifications. Requires a broad knowledge of welding technology in addition to extensive welding experience, fulfills ASME section IX welding qualifications. Production quality and efficiency using appropriate tools and equipment, qualified to perform special processes as needed * Working from drawings, specifications, manuals, codes, etc., sets up welding equipment and obtains electrodes and other necessary equipment for specified job or subassembly. * Investigates special welding instructions to conform to Quality Assurance requirements. * Slag work; examines weld for size of bead, penetration and quality continuous code welding and testing. * Visually examines completed weld for size of bead, penetration and quality. * Understand and work with complicated standards or special structures and weldments involving a number of parts and details, using clamp, tack weld, jigs, fixtures, and turning rigs. * In preparation of surfaces to be welded, will use a variety of tools such as grinder, chippers and arc gouging equipment. * Size of positioning of work may require incumbents of this position to operate a variety of material handling equipment including jibs, overhead cranes, and their accessories. * Uses an assortment of measuring tools such as straight edge, tape, welding gauges, etc. to ensure proper weld dimensions * Consistently meets customer's quality requirements and expectations. 2.
