About the Role
As a End Welder at Atlas Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, Birmingham, AL, you will play a key role in supporting efficient tube mill operations by welding coil ends, maintaining material flow, and assisting with mill changeovers. This role is ideal for someone who is safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and committed to improving uptime, product quality, and overall mill performance.
What You'll Do
Operate controls for the leveler and end welder.
Set up the butt welder for each gauge of material and weld coil ends together.
Identify butt welds, gauge changes, and coil numbers with paint.
Keep the accumulator loaded with sufficient steel supply to run the mill continuously.
Assist in the performance of mill changeovers.
Complete all required operating and quality reports accurately.
Assist maintenance personnel in making repairs to equipment.
Assist other operators during breakdowns, bottlenecks, and scheduled downtime.
Report irregularities or malfunctions to managers and/or maintenance.
Empty all scrap buckets and maintain proper scrap flow.
Keep the work area and equipment clean and in a safe condition.
Operate the crane for loading coils.
Keep the uncoiler loaded with correct material for production.
Perform other duties as assigned to support mill operations.
Who You Are
High school diploma or GED preferred.
2+ years of experience in a manufacturing facility.
Tube mill manufacturing experience preferred.
Proven leadership skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics to determine welding requirements and specifications.
Move parts into position, manually or with hoists or cranes.
Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, hand tools, and plasma cutting.
Inspect welds for accuracy and quality, ensuring adherence to specifications and standards.
Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on welding equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Follow all safety procedures and regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
