Day to Day Duties:
Performing arc and torch cutting and gouging.
Using generators, compressors, tuggers, blowers, grinders, and other power and air tools.

Position Summary:
We are looking to hire skilled Combination Pipe Welders in the future to join our Mechanical team for ongoing work at King's Bay Naval Base, GA and the surrounding area. All work is to be performed on the military base and is paid the required Davis-Bacon prevailing wage, specific to the base.

Our Combination Welder will be responsible for using hand-welding, flame cutting, hand soldering, or brazing equipment to weld or join metal components. This position will require the ability to pass groove-weld qualification tests in all positions for multiple materials and processes using both Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) as well as Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) as necessary. All work is completed on an active construction site, and in accordance with relevant codes. Work involves technical application of mechanical welding principles. This is all to be done using the appropriate equipment and implementing the required safety practices in support of RQ's Mission, Vision, and Values.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or GED is the preferred minimum formal education for this position. Should be supplemented by completion of a Union, private (in-house), military, or trade school apprenticeship program that includes theory and on-the-job
5 to 8 years (or equivalent) field or trade work experience as a Combination Welder in a commercial, or facilities operations setting is required; government, military, or large commercial construction experience
Candidates must be able to pass 6G GTAW & SMAW test before being hired.
CPR, First Aid, and OSHA 30-hour Certifications required (training can be provided)
Specific training or certificates in the following preferred (training can be provided):
Trenching and shoring training

Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Plan, layout, weld, install, test and repair all types of pipe and similar tubular products in accordance with plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Work with other crafts as instructed by supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

-Comply with Company, federal, state, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations, and policies while performing duties.
-Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
-Review layouts, blueprints, diagrams, or work orders in preparation for welding or cutting metal components.
-Complete welds to the specified standards using appropriate equipment and materials.
-Install and verify operation of high-pressure steel pipes and fittings.
-Repair and replace any damaged pipe; fabricate and install metal fittings; install supports, valves, and other control equipment; bolt, clamp, or weld parts to secure in position for welding.
-Use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, assemble, weld, and install all types of pipe and/or similar tubular products.
-Test installed piping systems and install other related items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications.
-Set up equipment and welding parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding equipment.
-Troubleshoot equipment.
-Produce high-quality welds, including water-tight penetrations with a variety of materials including weld steel, stainless, and aluminum.
-Work with minimal supervision.
-Perform other duties as assigned.
-Successfully pass in a 6G (6" pipe coupon) Stainless Steel, CUNI, & Aluminum - TIG
-Successfully pass in a 6G (6" weld coupon) Carbon Steel - root and cap
REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalence plus three to five years' pipe welding experience desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Requires working knowledge of equipment, work processes, and techniques used in measuring fitting and welding steel. Requires x-ray pipe welding experience with the ability to weld pipe in all positions and mirror welding. Requires knowledge of welding symbols, ship terminology, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and American Bureau of Shipbuilding (ABS) standards. Must pass SMAW 6G Pipe Test to become ABS Certified.
Skills: Ability to read and comprehend written, verbal, or diagram forms or plans. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and verbal instructions. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees. Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure. Ability to read a tape measure.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate.
