MILITARY DEFENSE TRAVEL FITTER/FABRICATOR FOR 2 YEAR CONTRACT IN NEWPORT NEWS, VA

Tack Welding Qualification:

All Shipfitters will be required to pass a Single Pass Tack Welder Qualification Test upon reporting for the first day of work. This test will be:

A. Using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Process.

B. With MIL-10718-M (A-5A) Filler Metal of MIL-E-22200/1.

C. In both the Vertical Up (3F) and Overhead (4F) positions.

Required Skills:

1.Single Pass Tack Welding.

2.Burning-Oxygen/Propane Burning Torch.

3.Heating-Oxygen/Propane Heating Torch.

4.Ability to comprehend complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches to include weld symbols, material types, datum and reference lines.

5. Ability to comprehend fractional dimensions as with the use of a ruler.

6. Ability to layoff piece parts for fabrication and assembly.

7. Ability to assemble structural piece parts in accordance with specifications in a quality manner.

8. Experience working in a physically demanding environment (shipbuilding, steel fabrication, etc.).

9. Familiarity with OSHA regulations relative to the shipbuilding industry.

10. Use vibratory tools (grinders and needle guns).

As a Fitter Welder at Meyer, you'll use jigs/holding fixtures to lay out pieces to be welded according to blueprints, layouts, schematics, or work orders. You'll then use manual/semi-automatic/automatic welding equipment to join, surface, fabricate, and repair parts of metal or other weldable materials.

The Fitter Welder also inspects completed work for conformance to specifications and performs minor maintenance to equipment.
What You'll Do:
• Lay out and cut complex subassemblies or final product
• Fit and complete final welds and/or multi-pass welds
• Apply appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, and repair parts of metal or other weldable materials according to layouts, work orders, blueprints schematics, and sketches using manual and/or semi-automatic welding equipment
• May lay out and mark weld points on parts or subassemblies
• May position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools
• May inspect completed work for conformance to specifications
• Observe all standard safety practices
• Maintain and complete all required records
• Follow all safety rules and practices
• May be involved in safety committees or initiatives
• Other job duties as assigned
What You'll Need
• Ability to successfully pass a 2G Flux Core (FCAW) weld test on 1” plate (bend test)
• Flux Core experience is highly desired
• Experience welding or fitting utility structures or similar products is highly desired, but not required
• Ability to adhere to all safety rules and practices
• Ability to read blueprints, layouts, schematics, or work orders
• The ability to maintain reliable and predictable good attendance
• A high level of dependability, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal.

Job Summary: To produce a quality product in a safe and efficient manner using spot welding equipment to seamlessly weld metal parts together.
Knowledge and Skills (Education):
• High School Diploma with 2-3 years experience in a factory setting.
• welding test credit and or welding certificate.
• Knowledge of proper welding procedures and techniques.
Major Accountabilities:
• Inspect parts for weld quality and distinguish a good weld from a defective weld and causes of the defect
• Understand Process instruction sheets.
• Responsible for complying with the requirements of the Environmental Policy and for implementing the policy within the scope of their duties.
• Responsible for the completion of Environmental Management Program tasks related to their assigned area of responsibility.
• The originators of work instructions shall be responsible for maintaining such work instructions.
• Any employee who identifies a non-conformance has the responsibility of immediately bringing the matter to the attention of the Environmental Management Representative.
• Any employee that develops or maintains an environmental record shall be responsible for
