PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Weld various types, sizes and shapes of materials to make fabrications utilizing Stick, Mig and Flux Core welding processes requiring care to produce a quality joint where methods, sequences, and tooling have been established.
TOOLS, PROCESSES AND EQUIPMENT:
SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), welding equipment, torches, regulators, floor operated cranes, welding positioners, fixtures, slag gun, grinder, hand truck, forklift, ladder, and scaffold. PPE includes safety glasses, face shield, respirator, gloves, weld jacket and cap, etc.
MATERIAL:
Ferrous and nonferrous metals and their alloys, plate, structural shapes, castings and weldments, etc. Oxygen, acetylene and inert gases, flux, welding wire and rod, etc.
Work Procedure and/or Responsibility Assigned:
1. Receive work assignment from Group Leader and Supervision.
2. Read and follow safety regulations and procedures and weld symbols.
3. Setup equipment by setting amperage, voltage, pressures, feeds, and speeds within limits specified and obtaining specified electrode.
4. Position and operate manual, semi-automatic and automatic welding equipment to deposit single and multiple layers and weld in all positions at joint locations specified where care must be exercised to produce quality welds with uniform penetration.
Location of parts is determined by others or by fixtures. Load and clamp material in fixtures against fixed stops.
5. Operate carbon arc torch to remove weldments from floorplate or strongback and braces from weldments.
6. Operate handling equipment to lift, move and position material.
7. Sign off operations completed and obtain first piece and final inspection signoffs on operation sheets as required.
8. Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
9. Make proper time charge entries and record data as required.
10. Maintain in effect certification for welding ferrous and nonferrous metals and alloys and take and acceptably pass periodic working tests.
11. Identify parts in accordance with method specified.
Perform Work of equal or lower skills level as required.
Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
Minimum 2 years' experience utilizing SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) welding processes.
Prior work experience with interpreting blueprints, weld symbols, and manufacturing instructions.
US citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum 5 years experience welding in an industrial heavy Fabrication environment.
Working experience with carbon arcing/backgouging.
Working experience with American Welding Society or Military standards.

We are seeking an experienced, successful, and engaged Welder to join our team. This position is expected to work out of our office at 610 E Gish Rd San Jose CA with limited job-related travel required.
Position Summary:
GreenWaste is seeking to fill the position of Welder to provide support to one or more facilities. This position is responsible for repairing and maintaining all equipment used in the collection and processing of materials collected by GreenWaste Recovery. This position is responsible for operating all industrial equipment safely and efficiently while conducting repairs to ensure that operations run safely and smoothly.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Ability to read directions and notes on work orders
Perform welding / fabrication repairs to trucks, trailers, loaders, forklifts, carts, bins, debris boxes, and associated equipment
Perform repairs and assigned preventative maintenance services.
Review, and complete repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
Conduct safety checks on vehicles and equipment.
Perform service calls for emergency breakdowns.
Maintain a clean, safe work environment in compliance with GreenWaste and OSHA standards.
Ensure safe and proper maintenance of equipment and tools used to perform welding / maintenance repairs
Responsible for completing and checking all work for quality, verifying correct repairs by test driving and or function testing.
Must report all incidents to management, including all damage to vehicles and property immediately.
Attend all safety meetings as scheduled.
Follow all local, state and federal laws and regulations.
Other Work on an as needed basis.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully.
Ability to work well with other employees in a team environment and ensure a safe work environment.
Ability to operate vehicles used by GreenWaste, such as forklifts and collection equipment.
Ability to read, write, comprehend work orders, and communicate in English.
Great time management skills and the ability to work well with others.
Knowledge and skills related to welding and fabrication repairs.
Qualifications:
Acceptable DMV record, Class A or B license considered a plus.
High school diploma or GED.
5 years of experience preferred, directly related to the essential functions and responsibilities in this job description
Welding / fabrication experience in multiple disciplines Mig, Tig, Gas and stick.
Ability to work with multiple materials Aluminum, steel, and cast Iron preferred.
5-years' experience in refuse equipment preferred, with working knowledge of hydraulics.
Knowledge of safe operation of welding tools, torches and shop equipment
Ability to work in outdoor and shop environments under varying weather conditions
Great time management skills.
Language Skill:
Proficiency in English. Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to remain in a standing position for extended periods of time.
Must be capable of lifting arms above shoulder level and work in that position for extended periods of time.
Must be able to work in limited spaces.
Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 75lbs.
Must be able to work in kneeling or prone position for extended periods of time.
Must be able to bend/twist freely at neck and waist.
Must be capable of simple grasping with both hands.
Must be capable of driving and operating multiple types of fleet vehicles including forklifts.
Must be able to crawl under and inside equipment to locate and work on problems.
Work Environment:
Typical work week is Monday through Friday with a morning shift. Will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, noise, and odors & smells associated to the refuse industry. Ability to work in an environment with frequent changes in equipment, city / town and routes based on the operational needs for the day and or week. Schedules can vary, including early start times and evening start times. Overtime and weekend work are required on occasion.
