Job Responsibilities * Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly. * Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces to ensure conformance with specifications. * Weld together metal components of products such as piping systems, plate, pipe and tube or structural shapes, as specified by layout, blueprints, diagram, work order, welding procedures, or oral instructions, using electric arc-welding equipment. * Obtain specified electrode and insert electrode into portable holder or thread consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun. * Connect cables and adjust welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, polarity, and pulse, as specified by welding procedure or supervisor. * Start power supply to produce electric current. * Strike (form) arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to work piece and join edges of work piece. * Manually guide electrode or gun along weld-line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle. * Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions. * Examine weld for bead size and other specifications. * May manually apply filler rod to supply weld metal. * May clean or degrease weld joint or workplace, using wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath. May repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes. * May prepare broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces. * May remove excess weld, defective weld material, slag, and spatter, using carbon arc gouge, hand scraper, grinder or power chipper. * May preheat work piece, using hand torch or heating furnace. * May position and clamp work piece together or assemble then in a jig or fixture. * May tack weld assemblies together. * May cut metal plates or structural shapes. * May fit up parts (pipe, tube, structural shapes, or plate) and inspect fit before welding. * May be required to use Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded-Metal Arc welding processes. * Respiratory protection is common and may be required. * Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules. * Other duties as assigned. Work normally is performed under close supervision; however, close supervision is not always available for routine and repetitive tasks, which can be carried on without difficulty once they are learned. As work experience is gained and additional welding certification are obtained, the employee may be assigned to tasks that are more difficult in nature and require more responsibility. WELDER II - this level of Welder is responsible for performing duties described for a Welder I. This level of welder requires additional training, skills, certification, and experience and must receive the appropriate score on the plant specific Welder Level Card. Work normally is performed under limited to close supervision. As additional experience is gained, the employee may be assigned to tasks that are more difficult in nature and require more responsibility. WELDER III - this level of Welder is responsible for performing duties described for a Welder II. What Drives Success A Welder (I) for Lennox AES at our Wheeling, WV location is a skilled position responsible for performing welding tasks with precision and expertise. They work with various materials, such as galvanized steel and aluminum, interpret blueprints, and ensure the quality and integrity of our products (roof curbs, drop boxes, etc.). Duties include, but are not limited to: Fabricate custom and standard products from blueprints with high attention to detail and efficiency. Communicate with shop manager and engineering on product issues and assist with streamlining methods for production. MIG weld 10-to-20-gauge galvanized steel for adapters, curbs, and other products. Conduct visual inspections of welded components to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications. Work closely with engineers, fabricators, and other team members to ensure efficient workflow and successful project completion. Under direct supervision, spot welds together metal components. What We Are Looking For Familiar with safe welding practices. Capable of learning to read fabrication drawings with some instruction. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, tape measures, diagrams, or assembly instructions. Capable of welding 10-to-20-gauge galvanized steel. (Can be taught) Must be physically capable of loading fabrication parts onto the weld table. Capable of blueprint reading and interpretation skills. Individual must be a self-starter and need minimal guidance on daily task. Must be quality oriented with strong attention to detail. Individual must have a working knowledge of MIG welding machines with respect to preventive maintenance and control settings to obtain maximum efficiencies. Able to move objects weighing up to 75 pounds. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Requires a high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred: Trade school or certification in welding. Required: 1-year previous MIG welding experience. Able to work with a positive attitude and in a team setting. Basic understanding of safety protocols in a manufacturing environment. What We Offer Compensation: This is an hourly non-exempt role. The starting pay range for this role is $19.50/hour. Factors that may affect starting pay include geography/market, and the skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. Employees in this role are also eligible to earn overtime when they work more than 40 hours in a week (or as otherwise required by state law).
