Job Description
An Ingalls Pipe Welder is responsible for performing pipe welding procedures on Stainless Steel and Copper-Nickel pipe using Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), also known as tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding. The shipyard environment is an around the clock manufacturing setting. Ingalls shipyard production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day. As with most every position in the shipyard, a Welder may be required to work either day or night dependent upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time. Ingalls stresses the practice of working safely in all situations with safety procedures meeting, and most times, exceeding industry standards. T ypes of metal materials with a variety of welding processes; the most basic of which are, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) also known as "stick welding" and Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW) also known as "wire welding."

About the Position
As a Welder, you will be responsible for using your MIG welding skills to weld metal and/or components used in the production of Pad, Pole, or 3Phase transformers. This hands-on role requires precision, physical stamina, and a strong commitment to safety and quality. Responsibilities
What you will do:
Interpret and follow detailed written and verbal instructions related to welding and fabricating metal components used in the assembly of distribution transformers. Tasks are performed according to layouts, blueprints, diagrams, work orders, welding procedures, or oral directions using various welding equipment. Candidates must have prior training or experience and be capable of safely and properly starting up, operating, maintaining, and shutting down equipment. The role requires repeated lifting and moving of materials weighing over 50 lbs., with or without assistance from lifting devices. Use of hand and power tools is essential to complete assigned tasks. All welds and assembled products must meet ERMCO's quality standards. Adherence to all ERMCO safety policies and procedures is mandatory.
Qualifications
Necessary Qualifications:
Ability to follow and understand both written and verbal instructions
Effective communication skills in a team-oriented environment
Proficiency in using electronic communication devices such as iPads
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division across various units of measurement
Ability to lift/push over 50 lbs. and pull up to 110 lbs.
Frequent standing and walking; occasional sitting, stooping, reaching, or kneeling
Skilled in using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and micrometers (digital and manual)
Proficient in using hand and power tools including drills, air ratchets, wrenches, pliers, and hammers
Experience operating overhead hoists and lift assist equipment
Visual acuity of 20/40 (with or without corrective lenses), normal peripheral vision of at least 70 degrees, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Compliance with all plant safety policies and department-specific safety rules
