POSITION SUMMARY:

REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalence plus three to five years' pipe welding experience desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Requires working knowledge of equipment, work processes, and techniques used in measuring fitting and welding steel. Requires x-ray pipe welding experience with the ability to weld pipe in all positions and mirror welding. Requires knowledge of welding symbols, ship terminology, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and American Bureau of Shipbuilding (ABS) standards. Must pass SMAW 6G Pipe Test to become ABS Certified.
Skills: Ability to read and comprehend written, verbal, or diagram forms or plans. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and verbal instructions. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees. **Align parts using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and heavy hammers.
**Straighten warped or bent parts using sledge, hand torch, straightening press, and push/pull methods.

Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Plan, layout, weld, install, test and repair all types of pipe and similar tubular products in accordance with plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Work with other crafts as instructed by supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

-Use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, assemble, weld, and install all types of pipe and/or similar tubular products.
-Test installed piping systems and install other related items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications.
-Set up equipment and welding parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding equipment.
-Troubleshoot equipment.
-Produce high-quality welds, including water-tight penetrations with a variety of materials including weld steel, stainless, and aluminum.
-Work with minimal supervision.
-Perform other duties as assigned.
-Successfully pass in a 6G (6" pipe coupon) Stainless Steel, CUNI, & Aluminum - TIG
-Successfully pass in a 6G (6" weld coupon) Carbon Steel - root and cap
REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalence plus three to five years' pipe welding experience desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Requires working knowledge of equipment, work processes, and techniques used in measuring fitting and welding steel. Requires x-ray pipe welding experience with the ability to weld pipe in all positions and mirror welding. Requires knowledge of welding symbols, ship terminology, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and American Bureau of Shipbuilding (ABS) standards. Must pass SMAW 6G Pipe Test to become ABS Certified.
Skills: Ability to read and comprehend written, verbal, or diagram forms or plans. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and verbal instructions. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees. Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure. Ability to read a tape measure.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the workday. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Key Responsibilities

Upon completion of every weld, clean and apply stencil/stamp (3/8” from every weld). Vessel fabrication/welding requires stenciling every three (3) feet of weld length.
Communicate with the helper/rigger regarding necessary materials or equipment for each task.
**Align parts using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and heavy hammers.
**Straighten warped or bent parts using sledge, hand torch, straightening press, and push/pull methods.

General Information
Job Description: This position is responsible for accomplishing, with minimal supervision, production welding on a ship or in a shop to support structural repairs and modernization of marine vessels including US Naval Vessels, Military Sealift Command, and commercial ships. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
1. Must be able to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence.
2. Must have a working knowledge of ship repair terminology and ship compartment naming convention.
3. Must be physically and medically capable to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the job as prescribed under OSHA standards. PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.)
4. Must be able to effectively confer job related information to the supervisor.
5. Must understand SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW.

e. Become familiar with applicable safety requirements before commencing work.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The working environment in the shipyard varies from a normal office conditions to working outside where precipitation, wind, extreme cold, and extreme heat and high humidity are not unusual. When working inside of vessels the environment may be smoky, hot or cold, and have low levels of illumination may be present.
There are heavy equipment and power tools operating almost at every location. Depending on the type of work available, reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the job requirements.
Personnel can expect to work in a variety of spaces from confined areas accessible only by manholes to high platforms accessible only by scaffolding or ladders. Work may also be accomplished using mechanical lifts as working platforms.
The noise level in the shipyard environment is usually loud, especially inside of vessels. The noise encountered in the shop is generally low to moderate. The wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment is mandatory.
There is always the potential of falling objects and personnel are occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts during work. Appropriate PPE must always be worn.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Must be able to tour all vessels, piers, docks and work sites.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear.

The Job
You'll travel across the U.S. to power plant sites, welding stainless steel structural components using the Flux-Core process (309 wire on ½" carbon plate). You'll read and work from detailed blueprints, and perform 2G, 3G, and 4G welds in all positions including overhead and vertical, in high-pressure, physically demanding environments like boilers and scaffolding systems.

3+ years of industrial welding experience
Ability to pass bend-tested welds: 2G, 3G, and 4G (Flux-Core, 309 wire)
Comfortable working at heights and in tight, hot spaces
Willing to travel continuously nationwide

The Offshore Fitter is responsible for accurately laying out, cutting, and fitting piping, vessel, and structural components based on supplied drawings or field-verified dimensions. This position requires offshore construction experience, physical capability, and a strong commitment to quality, productivity, and safety. The Fitter must maintain professionalism, show up on time, and work effectively with helpers, riggers, and welders.
Key Responsibilities
Figure material take-offs on drawings for required cut lengths.
**Use pipe cutting machine, or if unavailable, use beveling machine to cut pipe to required length.
Communicate with helper/rigger to identify needed material or equipment for each task.
**Align parts using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and heavy hammers.
Mark reference points on floor or face block and transpose them to workpiece using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and soapstone.
Give instructions to welders to build up low spots or short pieces with weld.
**Straighten warped or bent parts using sledge, hand torch, straightening press, and push-pull methods.
**Remove high spots and cut bevels using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torch.
Examine blueprints and plan work sequence, applying knowledge of geometry, weld shrinkage, machining, and metal thickness.
**Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment using welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints.
Label all information on pipe before cutting; transfer item numbers onto cut sheet and carry them over to drop pipe.
Inspect and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
**Ascend/descend stairwells frequently with or without tools and equipment.
Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair per specifications.
Read and understand blueprints and ISOs.
**Demolish and install handrails and grating on platform.
Verify all measurements, checking for square and level before releasing to welder.
Note pre-weld dimensions on fitter drawings.
**Hang and swing on vertical rope to/from platform and boat (potential rough seas/wind).
Ensure all fabricated items are tagged with the correct job number, customer name, and piece number.
**Climb and work from heights.
**Pull tools and equipment up/down to workstations or areas.
Show up to work on time and as scheduled.
Inspect all equipment daily (torch, torch hoses, grinder, levels, tapes, etc.).
Maintain a clean and safe work area by sweeping as needed.
Complete and discuss a thorough Job Safety and Environmental Analysis (JSEA) prior to each task.
Maintain a positive attitude toward customers and represent ACI professionally.
What You Need to Know
Preferably 2 years minimum experience in fitting (piping, vessel, and structural) fabrication.
Minimum of 2 years recent offshore construction experience.
Most recent offshore experience within the last 4 years.
Ability to read and interpret ISOs and blueprints.
Familiarity with offshore emergency response, escape procedures, and water survival skills.
