What You Will Do:
We are seeking a Welder Apprentice to learn the skills and techniques necessary to become a professional welder. The Welder Apprentice will assist experienced welders with various tasks such as cutting, grinding, welding and fitting metal parts. This position requires a willingness to perform physical labor and learn from a team of experienced professionals.
Assist welders in setting up and preparing weld surfaces, equipment, and materials as needed
Cut and grind metal pieces to fit properly and remove any impurities
Perform basic welding tasks using MIG, TIG, and stick welding techniques
Clean and maintain welding equipment and tools daily
Move materials and equipment as directed by lead welders
Learn and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times while performing welding tasks
Collaborate with other team members to complete projects on time and to performance expectations
Attend mandatory safety meetings and training sessions
Assist fabrication team with various tasks (Sawing, Rolling, Bending, Fit up)
Assist in assembly of product packages
Assist in painting and sandblasting as needed
Read blueprints and drawings and take measurements to plan layout
Align parts using calipers, tape measures, etc. and clamp pieces.
Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to determine flaws
Perform dimensional checks throughout the process to ensure that tolerances are adhered to according to blueprints
Confer with engineering, supervisor and manufacturing team members to exchange technical information
Assist in the design of fixtures and tooling to meet special engineering needs
Communicate effectively with the team to clarify instructions and address production issues
Be willing to Float to other Departments to meet production demands as needed
Work required overtime periodically

SUMMARY
Set up and operate welding machines that weld together and mass-produce component parts of fabricated metal products as specified by blueprints (read and understand weld symbols), layouts, welding procedures or oral instructions.
Join two pieces of metal to create a quality customer product using methods such as MIG welding. Robot and spot weld included.
Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.
Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment. Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc. Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Obtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun.
Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified.
Starts power supply to produce electric current. Strikes (forms) arc, which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to workpiece and join edges of workpiece.
Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture.
Measure's part dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation
May tack assemblies together.
May operate other machine shop equipment to prepare components for welding.
Works safely at all times and follows safety procedures.
Operates any equipment needed to perform job.
Performs related duties as assigned by supervision.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and demonstrate the ability to speak and read English.
Must consistently meet weld quality standards and demonstrate knowledge of MIG, stainless steel, carbon steel and aluminum welding, and automated welding where applicable. Employees must supply their own hand tools.

Job Title: Multi-Craft Field Welder

Reports To: Multi-Craft Millwright Foreman
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Summary: At Cherokee Millwright, we are a multi-craft company that focuses on the needs of our customers by providing multi-trades personnel to meet the customer's unique job requests. Therefore, all field employees will be cross-trained in various trades such as millwrighting, pipefitting, welding, sheet metal, civil, etc. The focus of this position will be to plan, lay-out, weld, install and repair all types of metal components according to blueprints, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by supervisor. However, it will not be entirely set to this specific skillset.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Laying out pieces to be assembled according to blueprints, schematics or work orders. Using manual/semi-automatic/automatic welding equipment to join, surface, fabricate, and repair parts of metal or other weldable materials. Positioning pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools. Inspecting completed work for conformance to specifications. Performing minor maintenance to equipment. Observing all standard safety practices, and maintaining and completing all required records. Participating in safety committees or initiatives as required. Additional skills in other crafts will be necessary to meet our customers need and will be expected in this role.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No Supervision.
Qualifications: Must be able to pass structural and 6G pipe weld test. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Fork Lift license may be required.

Ability to operate the following equipment: Hydraulic press brake, hydraulic shear, Vulcan plasma cutting table, Pittsburg machine, TDC machine, Roller machine (three types), Hand break, Bead roller machine, Bead forming machine, Stomp shear, Magna bend, Pin spot machine, Drill press, Band saw, Plasma torch, Track torch, Mig and Tig Welders, Overhead Crane, and Forklift.
