Job Description/Tasks/Responsibilities * Uses hand-welding or flame-cutting to weld metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams. Performs duties with a high regard for safety and accuracy. * Operate safety equipment and use safe and efficient work habits. * Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and cutting torch. * Monitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material to ensure conformance with specifications. * Positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straight edges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers. * Analyzes shop drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations. * Clamps, holds, tack-welds, grinds or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding. * Grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment to smooth out rough edges and maintain safety. * Marks or tags material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required ensuring proper shipment to customers. * Dismantles metal assemblies or cuts scrap metal using thermal-cutting equipment such as flame-cutting torches or plasma-arc equipment. * Performs daily activities and prioritizes tasks based on written and oral directions from Weld Lead and Manager. * Must complete process/facility training as assigned. * There is no supervision of other workers at this level. * Responsible for the quality of his/her own work and satisfying customer (internal and external) specifications * Must complete process/facility training as assigned * Performs other duties as assigned.
