Welder** **Department: Equipment and Shop Services** **Reports to: Fab Shop Supervisor** Works to repair and construct new fabricated products while contributing to the overall atmosphere with a positive, safety conscious, and proactive attitude. Welders will build and fabricate equipment for use in Frontier-Kemper's Mining, Civil Divisions, while also constructing new OEM equipment provided to outside customers by our Lake Shore division. A well rounded skill set, willingness to learn and work well with others both in and out of their immediate department are essential.
**ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Must comply with all company policies and be able to work in way that does not pose a threat to themselves and others.
+ Efficiently and accurately complete work assigned by management.
+ Provide high quality and accurate fabricated items based on supplied drawings.
+ The safe operation of forklifts and overhead cranes to perform work.
+ Evaluating equipment to assess damage and wear.
+ Periodic facility maintenance and repairs to work areas in the shop.
+ Participate with all departments of FKCI to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
+ Work overtime as needed.
+ Perform the physical requirements of walking on uneven surfaces, standing constantly on a hard surface, climbing stairs or ladders, reaching, bending, and kneeling.
+ Constant exertion of 10-20 lbs of force to lift, carry, push or pull objects; frequent exertion of 25-50 lbs of force and occasional exertion of 50-100 lbs of force.
+ Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Production Welder is under supervision performing routine welding and fitting tasks that meet company and departmental objectives. Ensures the maintenance of a safe work environment with an ultimate goal of zero accidents.
Day Shift Position, with core hours of 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday in an environment with voluntary hours over forty. Afternoon shifts are 12 - 8:30 pm. Flexible schedule with a start time as early as 5 am. Must have two years of welding experience or successfully completed a formal education program in welding. Training provided on aluminum welding. After completion of welding certification, this role will perform production welding tasks
Core Job Responsibilities
* Responsible for various types of weld preparation, welding and weld finishing operations in the production of aluminum/stainless heat exchangers
* Manufactures and assembles metal fabrications i.e. ferrous and non-ferrous using appropriate equipment and processes provided
* Manufactures and assembles, fabricated and mechanical components, structures and vessels from drawings
* Maintains a consistent standard of work and performance in compliance with regulatory and Quality Assurance standards
* Ensures the performance of work and the maintenance of work environment that meets safety goal objectives
* Assists in the development and implementation of product improvement initiatives and identifies where improvements in function, efficiency and quality can be achieved
* Other responsibilities as assigned
* Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary
Education: High school diploma or GED. Refer to years of experience for additional qualifications with no experience in welding.
Years Experience: 0-2 years of experience. 2 years of work experience or 0 years work experience with completion of a certificate/degree from a technical college or completion of a welding apprenticeship program, or other equivalent programs.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
* Knowledge of welding techniques
* Able to read and understand mechanical drawings and weld prints
* Strong knowledge of basic math
* Ability to recognizes and solves typical problems that can occur in own work area; evaluates and selects solutions from established options
* Good communication and organizational skills
