We are looking for a skilled Fabricator to join our team. This role involves working with a variety of materials to build custom parts and assemblies from start to finish. A Welder performs skilled heating, welding, plasma cutting, and brazing, using arc, flux core, MIG, and TIG welding on a variety of modern metals in a shop, in a generating station, or in the field, using oxyacetylene and electric welding equipment; layout and fabrication work, using manual and power shears, hydraulic punch presses, notchers, benders, drill presses, disc sanders, bench and box breaks, rollers, and a variety of hand tools; reads blueprints, and maintains equipment, performing minor mechanical repairs.
NOTE:
A Welder may weld at various heights, including working on scaffolding, in excavations, boats, barges, container cranes, on fuel tanks, confined spaces, and in other hazardous locations; and may be required to wear a full or half-face respirator mask under certain working conditions.
* Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a welder; or
* Four years of full-time paid experience in the following welding processes: shielded metal arc, tungsten inert gas, gas metal arc, and oxyacetylene cutting.
Completion of a welding program at an accredited institution may be substituted for each year of experience lacking up to a maximum of two years at a rate of 15 units in welding to one year of experience specified in Requirement #2.
PROCESS NOTES
* A license as a certified Welder for Structural Steel issued by the Los Angeles City Department of Building and Safety is required for all positions in the General Services Department, for most other positions in the City, and in the Department of Water and Power prior to appointment.
* Applicants who lack six months or less of the required experience at the time of filing may file for this examination. However, they cannot be appointed until the full experience requirement is met.
* Applicants filing under Requirement #1 must submit an Apprenticeship Certificate at the time of filing. The copy of the Certificate must be attached to the online application BEFORE the application is submitted. About the Position
Prepares work to be accomplished by studying fabrication instructions, blueprint specifications, and parts lists; gathers parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials. Produces components by assembling parts and subassemblies.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Requires drilling holes, and prep materials according to work orders, fabrication sheets, and
schedules
Completing daily work orders, parts inspection, calculations, and measurement of parts sizes,
placement, and work inspection
Ensure parts are fabricated according to prints, worksheets, and or shop drawings
Assemble components by examining connections for correct fit, fastening parts, and subassemblies
Resolves fabrication problems by altering dimensions to meet specifications; notifying supervisor to
obtain additional resources
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to complete various activities in the warehouse that may require hours of lifting, standing, and carrying.
Must be able to move up to 40 pounds at a time.
Qualification Requirements:
Able to take measurements by using a standard measuring tape
Basic understanding of the English language preferred
Able to read and understand work instructions
Able to use tools such as air power tools, hand tools, drills, small hammers, adhesives, and solvents
Ability to read, interpret and understand fabrication blueprint drawings
Safety
Safety Equipment - Hard hat, back belt, safety glasses, steel toe shoes/boots, cut-resistant gloves, cut-resistant outerwear, and other equipment as dictated by the specific department
Follow and adhere to all safety rules in the plant.
Hazards - Exposure to Chemicals/Fumes, Pinch Points, Exposure to Excessive Noise, Strain/Sprain, Laceration/Puncture, Particulate Exposure, Contusion, Hot temperatures, Slips and Falls

Execute high-precision laser welding on thin-gauge and high-strength alloys, maintaining tight control of heat input, distortion, and weld integrity in mission-critical hardware.

Requirements

Proven ability to fabricate and weld carbon and stainless structures and pipe to spec.
Must pass company-administered weld qualification tests and internal inspections.
Available to work overtime and varied shifts to meet mission timelines.

Preferred Skills and Experience
5+ years of GTAW welding experience with stainless, carbon, Inconel, aluminum, or titanium.

We are looking for a TIG Welder with experience welding and fabricating stainless steel pipes that can contribute roughly 25 hours per week. This is an ongoing part time role that is perfect for someone with the bandwidth to work extra hours in the mornings, evenings, or weekends.
Responsibilities:
TIG welding thin-walled stainless steel tubes, pipes, and other various structures using Miller Syncrowave 180 TIG Welder
Use of fixturing equipment such as magnetic and corner clamps
Use of fabrication equipment including miter saws, band saws, and grinders
Welding structures for the worlds highest throughput metal 3D printing system
Contribute roughly 25 hours per week (either during the work week or on weekends) onsite at our Hawthorne facility
Basic Requirements:
