This is a 12-week contract role (W2) with strong potential for full-time hire based on performance, reliability, and craftsmanship. Job Description/Tasks/Responsibilities * Uses hand-welding or flame-cutting to weld metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams. Performs duties with a high regard for safety and accuracy. * Operate safety equipment and use safe and efficient work habits. * Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and cutting torch. * Monitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material to ensure conformance with specifications. * Positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straight edges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers. * Analyzes shop drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations. * Clamps, holds, tack-welds, grinds or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding. * Grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment to smooth out rough edges and maintain safety. * Marks or tags material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required ensuring proper shipment to customers. * Dismantles metal assemblies or cuts scrap metal using thermal-cutting equipment such as flame-cutting torches or plasma-arc equipment. * Performs daily activities and prioritizes tasks based on written and oral directions from Weld Lead and Manager. * Must complete process/facility training as assigned. * There is no supervision of other workers at this level. * Responsible for the quality of his/her own work and satisfying customer (internal and external) specifications * Must complete process/facility training as assigned * Performs other duties as assigned. Using manual/semi-automatic/automatic welding equipment to join, surface, fabricate, and repair parts of metal or other weldable materials. Positioning pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools. Inspecting completed work for conformance to specifications. Performing minor maintenance to equipment. Observing all standard safety practices, and maintaining and completing all required records. Participating in safety committees or initiatives as required. Additional skills in other crafts will be necessary to meet our customers need and will be expected in this role. Supervisory Responsibilities: No Supervision. Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to operate the following equipment: Hydraulic press brake, hydraulic shear, Vulcan plasma cutting table, Pittsburg machine, TDC machine, Roller machine (three types), Hand break, Bead roller machine, Bead forming machine, Stomp shear, Magna bend, Pin spot machine, Drill press, Band saw, Plasma torch, Track torch, Mig and Tig Welders, Overhead Crane, and Forklift.
