The Light Welder position is responsible for performing all kinds of welding, brazing and soldering using various welding techniques and equipment. In this role, you will perform all standard and special set ups with or without fixtures and prepare material for welding. This role will promote continuous improvement and adheres to all health and safety procedures. In this role, you will have the opportunity to learn different machines and processes.
This position reports to the Production Supervisor and is located in Cortland, NY and is an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Perform Welding, Brazing and soldering of any ferrous, non-ferrous or stainless material. Layout and fit up work from blueprints or other written instructions.

SUMMARY AND PURPOSE
Welders primarily use TIG Welding to make various parts of Steel, Aluminum, and Stainless Steel. These parts range in size and are pre-cut from plates, bars, rods, and tubing. Occasionally we have assemblies that will require MIG Welding. Parts are prefabricated by others within our manufacturing group. The Welders receive primarily clean and burr free parts to weld. After welding they need to be square, straight, and to the print. The welds are to be free of undercut, cold lap, and porosity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Safely use established Welding techniques and best practices to make parts to Engineering Specifications within the scheduled time allowed.
Weld using TIG primarily or MIG and other fabrication processes. Parts will be commonly stainless steel, mild steel, or aluminum. Welders will adhere to both Industry Standards and Schneider procedures to make parts to engineering drawing specifications.
Finish parts by wire brushing, grinding and blending grain as required and complete required documentation.
Analyze and interpret engineering drawings to establish a clear understanding of what work is required to successfully make the part. Perform in-process checks to ensure the parts are conforming to the print.
Work with engineering to suggest improvements in drawings and designs
Monitor the quality of all components and frames leaving the welding area and make suggestions and changes to improve efficiency and quality in the welding area.
Train and develop less experienced Welders in the Schneider welding procedures
emphasizing safety, quality, and productivity.
Complete all required paperwork and labor reporting.
Perform miscellaneous housekeeping and maintenance duties.

* Performs routinely scheduled services to the refuse compactor at the customer's locations. Inspects, greases, changes/filters hydraulic oil, and changes filters on the refuse compactors. Adds hydraulic oil as needed.
* Checks the units for stress cracks and other safety hazards.
* Checks the electrical connections, replaces the circuits, solenoids and pressure switches and repairs wiring as needed.
* Operates the units, checks the pressure with a gauge and adjusts the cycle speed as needed.
* Installs and replaces total units.
* Uses a hammer drill to anchor the units and mount the guard rails.
* Fabricates hopper, shoots, platforms, steps and handrails.
