Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. In order to avoid injury, welders must have both mental and physical dexterity. It is vital that they have spatial awareness and a strong attention to small details. Continuous, and at times, concentrated mental and visual attention where the work is repetitive or duties are diversified and require continuous alertness and/or activity. Requires correctable vision and ability to adjust focus within normal range in order to perform clean and uniform welds and read blueprints. This job position regularly requires lifting, stooping, bending and stretching and use of arms and hands to accomplish grinding, welding and other assigned duties. Requires ability to work at different heights. Requires standing, bending and stooping for extended periods of time. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives. The noise level in the work environment is very loud where ear protection is necessary.
