SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The Welder/Diver is a diving specialist who is required to maintain proficiency in surface and hyperbaric (wet and dry chamber) welding as well as the skills required by all divers. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: * Perform welding operations according to project specifications and welding codes. * Fabricate, fit up, and assemble components for marine vessels, including hulls, decks, machinery, and other components. * Interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols. * Conduct quality inspections of welded joints to ensure they meet standards for strength and appearance. * Operates and/or uses related equipment and tools which include forklifts, slings, grinders (portable & bench), cutting torches, band saws, circular saws, hand tools, drills, and tape measures. * Collaborate with team members, engineers, and project managers to ensure specification are correct and project goals are met on time and within budget. * Follow safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment in accordance with company safety standards. * Clean work areas around the yard on a daily and a weekly basis. * Maintain welding equipment and tools in good working condition. * Aluminum Welder/Fabricator 2: * Works independently and consults with engineers for spec's on moderately complex projects. * Aluminum Welder/Fabricator 3: * Works independently from start to finish on complex projects with specifications from engineers. * Able to fabricate, lay-up and weld out with consistent high quality and efficiency. * Works with Welder 1 and 2 to divide tasks to set up work flow for increased efficiency. * Provides design feedback to engineers Required Education/Experience/Skills: * High school diploma or equivalent * Experience in aluminum welding/fabrication: * Aluminum Welder/Fabricator 2 = Minimum 3 years experience * Aluminum Welder/Fabricator 3 = Minimum 5 years experience * Proficiency in Aluminum MIG welding * Experience with Aluminum MIG welding machines * Ability and knowledge to adjust power and wire feed settings for desired weld quality independently * Experience with power tools and hand tools * Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and welding symbols * Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work * Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team * Good teamwork and communication skills * Strong work ethic and a positive attitude * Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment Physical Requirements: * Maneuvering in tight places, uneven floors. * Climbing up and down ladders, ramps, and stairs. * Standing for long periods of time. * Occasionally requires twisting, turning, bending, climbing, and walking over uneven surfaces. * Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, twist, pull, push, grip, and climb. * Lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs continuously. * Lifting objects weighing over 50 lbs with assistance. You will serve as a WELDER LEADER (EXPERT) in the DEPARTMENT OF NAVY to include work sites of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility. Primary Responsibilities: The Welder will perform welding with a focus on repair, fabrication, alteration, and fabrication on a seafaring vessel. Job Description SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The Welder/Diver is a diving specialist who is required to maintain proficiency in surface and hyperbaric (wet and dry chamber) welding as well as the skills required by all divers. The position may require worldwide travel on an emergency call out basis. The Welder/Diver will be expected to work in the facility (8 hours), possibly on board ships at sea and possibly on remote job sites, (12 hours). This position reports to the Diving Supervisor. CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt (hourly) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Accomplish all tasks assigned by the Diving Supervisor. If assigned a task for which they do not consider them self qualified by either training or experience, they shall immediately inform the Diving Supervisor. Read, understand, and comply with all of Phoenix policies and with applicable government regulations as they relate to their qualifications or performance while engaging in diving operations. Maintain proficiency in welding and NDT procedures as directed by the Diving Supervisor. Perform all welding and NDT per applicable government and commercial requirements. Maintain all government and commercial weld qualifications in accordance with Phoenix, welding and qualification procedures, training, qualification maintenance, and related program data. Comply with regulations or instructions concerning the use, maintenance, repair, and testing of all diving equipment provided for the operation. Remain awake and in the vicinity of the decompression chamber for at least one hour following treatment or a hyperbaric exposure outside the no decompression limits. Know and observe the rules for flying after diving or traveling to altitudes higher than the dive site. Ensure their diving equipment has been correctly maintained, prepared, and tested before each dive. This requirement should never be delegated to others. Maintain a diver's logbook, which details all dives, medical examinations, courses taken, and personal equipment maintenance. Ensure their medical certificates are up to date and recorded in their logbook. Present their logbook to the Diving Supervisor on every job. Maintain current certification in first aid and CPR. Minimum five years actual underwater-welding experience that can be substantiated by a letter of qualification from a diving company recognized by the industry as having acceptable wet-welding capability.
