A Welder I is responsible for the welding and final installation of steel components in the production of residential and commercial storm shelters, engineered metal buildings, and other industrial buildings. In this role, you will be required to work with cranes, jigs, torches, plasma, hand tools, and welding machines on a continual basis as well as meeting RGDS Quality Standards. Responsibilities
Proficiently welds components in flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions.
Prepares and sets up materials for welding, including using hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.
Operates welding equipment, including power tools and material handling equipment like overhead cranes

Cross-trains and uses additional trade skills in multiple stages of the manufacturing process as assigned.

Troubleshoot equipment.
Produce high-quality welds, including watertight penetrations with a variety of materials including weld steel, stainless, and aluminum.
Work with minimal supervision.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Successfully pass a 6G (6” pipe coupon) Stainless Steel, CUNI, & Aluminum - TIG.
Successfully pass a 6G (6” weld coupon) Carbon Stell - root and cap.

Education/ Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalence plus three to five years of pipe welding experience desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Requires working knowledge of equipment, work processes, and techniques used in measuring fitting and welding steel. Requires x-ray pipe welding experience with the ability to weld pipe in all positions and mirror weld. Requires knowledge of welding symbols, ship terminology, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and American Bureau of Shipbuilding (ABS) standards. Must pass SMAW 6G Pipe Test to become ABS Certified.

Essential Duties Responsibilities
Perform aluminum welding (primarily GMAW welding) to fabricate and repair ladders, handrails, and safety cages.
Perform repairs to field and shop materials and equipment as required
Provide training to others assigned to aluminum shop.
Assist Shop Foreman in maintaining materials inventory.
Observe and maintain all safety procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures.
Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements).
Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead).
Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps.
Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws.
Maintain and repair equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
Perform other duties as assigned including mechanics and machining and be subject to temporary assignment with other supervisors or for field work.
Report to work as scheduled by the employer and without excessive absenteeism.

Valid Driver's License
Ability to drive a forklift or learn
Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA etc.)

Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
