Hard:

Experience with all architectural metals (including copper based alloys) preferred.
Especially strong in layout skills.
Mastery in standard machinery: Cold saw, bandsaw, hydraulic shear drill press, belt sander, common electrical / manual hand-operated tools, etc. in addition to an ability to operate or learn to operate a Bridgeport mill, CNC press brake, powered angle roller (80 ton).
Analytic thinker and quick problem solver with solid mechanical knowledge.
Proficiency using a variety of welding / cutting equipment and procedures (Tig and Mig).
Familiarity with metal patination is a plus.
Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings including welding symbols.
Take, understand, utilize and retain verbal directions.
Must have consistent attention to detail.

As a Fitter/Welder I, you will support a broad range of activities in a dynamic, high energy production environment in the fabrication of stainless-steel car bodies for the best rail vehicles in the world.
What your day may look like:
* Follow all safety requirements, including use of all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
* Contribute to and maintain conditions that ensure a healthy and safe work environment.
* Fit, tack, and weld component parts into subassemblies and integrated final car bodies according to detail drawings with the aid of jigs and fixtures and state-of-the-art welding equipment.
* Weld assemblies according to specified welding standards.
* Ensure all dimensions comply with drawing specifications and tolerances.
* Repair fabrication errors according to defined repair procedures.
* Safely use hand, power, and welding tools.
* Complete work order documentation, quality documents, and accurately clock labor hours.
* Meet company standards for quality and workmanship.
* Meet production schedule, quality requirements, and budgeted labor hours with limited supervision.
What you need to be successful:
* High school education or GED
* 3-5 years MIG welding experience with emphasis on Stainless Steel --or-- completion of accredited weld education program and 2 years of MIG welding experience.
* General mechanical background.
* Basic English skills - ability to read and understand written instructions and effectively communicate verbally.
We would be impressed if you have:
* AWS certification for welding stainless steel using GMAW 3G vertical up and 4F overhead.
* Working knowledge of GTAW welding.

Major Responsibilities:
Utilize and care for equipment in the shop.
Determine relevant production equipment or methods based on project requirements.
Operate machinery at production levels with little to no supervision.
Maintain equipment in good condition in order to ensure productivity while not compromising safety.
Work with different kinds of metal alloys (including precious metals) in accordance with their unique properties.
Provide quality control, report errors, provide solutions to keep production flowing.
Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws.
Upon completion of assembly ensure product is free of any weld or dimensional defects as well as meets specified finish quality levels.
Creatively solve challenges with team or individually as they arise to ensure that all customer requirements are met.
Skills & Qualifications:
Hard:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Technical degree or certification in welding or fabrication is preferred.
5+ years as a metal fabricator in fine metalworking (i.e. architectural stainless steel, aluminum).
Experience with all architectural metals (including copper based alloys) preferred.
Especially strong in layout skills.
Mastery in standard machinery: Cold saw, bandsaw, hydraulic shear drill press, belt sander, common electrical / manual hand-operated tools, etc. in addition to an ability to operate or learn to operate a Bridgeport mill, CNC press brake, powered angle roller (80 ton).
Analytic thinker and quick problem solver with solid mechanical knowledge.
Proficiency using a variety of welding / cutting equipment and procedures (Tig and Mig).
Familiarity with metal patination is a plus.
Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings including welding symbols.
Take, understand, utilize and retain verbal directions.
Must have consistent attention to detail.
Ability to set up components for fabrication according to specifications.
Ability to work with team members and take direction from management in order to complete complicated, multi-part assemblies.

Physical Demand and Work Environment: This position requires working in a medium industrial setting where the noise level in the building can be loud. Position regularly requires employees to walk, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, reach overhead, and climb stairs and ladders. May include standing for up to 10 hours in a day.
Hours & Compensation: 30-40 hours per week and the hours are generally 5:00am-3:30pm, Monday-Thursday. Wage based on experience. Skills test required to validate wage amount.
