Responsibilities
1. Maintain the response vehicle: a. Keep vehicle clean. b. Check inventory and keep vehicle adequately stocked. c. Report necessary repairs/damage.

a. Life-pak (EKG, defibrillator, synchronizer, telemetry, external pacemaker).

c. Oxygen
d. Intubation (esophageal, endotracheal, nasogastric, and nasotracheal).
e. Ventilator/CPAP
f. Communication system
11. Maintain record of emergency responses, supplies used, mileage and equipment maintenance).
Requires use of computer applications such as hospital information systems, performance management software,
education/training software, Microsoft Word, Excel, email and department specific software and web applications.
Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent required
2. Current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician in the State of PA. Current CPR, ACLS and PALS certification.
3. Currently enrolled in good standing at a State approved Paramedic Education / Teaching program at either Pennsylvania College of
Technology (PCT) or Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC). And, is approved by either institution to function independently
with said supervision at the internship level.
4. Current EVOC certification within one year of employment.
5. Current Hazardous Materiel R & I, Operation level certification in compliance with OSHA Act: CFR 1910-120.
6. Valid driver's license and proof of insurability
7. Pennsylvania state police criminal record check, child abuse history clearance and an FBI criminal history check required.
Work requires basic computer literacy skills and keyboard proficiency. Work requires use of web based word processing system for
documentation. Work requires basic skills in Microsoft Word.
8.Work requires interpersonal skills to communicate with team members, staff, fire fighters, police, etc. Team collaboration is
frequently required to provide the highest quality of care. A high level of social sensitivity when communicating with patients to
gather patient histories, explain procedures , and give instructions. Must be compassionate, professional, and empathetic when
handling patient complaints and concerns while remaining focused on providing a positive patient experience (more than 80% of
work time).
9. Work requires analytical ability to assess patients and provide appropriate care. Must be able to integrate and interpret data from
diverse sources to analyze the environment and relevant dynamics and identify safe solutions. Analytical ability required to operate
equipment.

Performs EKGs and Point-of-Care testing which may include blood glucose, hemoccult and specific gravity testing.
Runs special errands as required. Responds to light calls.
Ensures patient rooms, nursing areas, supply carts, etc. are stocked with appropriate items at required levels.
Maintains par levels of supplies and equipment on assigned unit(s). Notifies supervisor when reorder points are reached.

* 8-week experience in 1 unit with shadow opportunities as available
* Minimum work commitment = 36 hours per week
* Rotating Shifts based on preceptor schedule
* Consideration given for RN students who are entering final semester/year (graduation in winter 2026-summer 2027)
* Must have completed Medical Surgical rotation in accredited nursing program prior to start of externship.
* Must maintain good standing status in accredited nursing program.
* Paid clinical experience
* 1:1 experienced RN preceptor

Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
* Provides information needed by the registered nurse to coordinate the care and discharge planning for the patient and family.
* Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, changing bed linens and bed pans and positioning.
* Assists in the preparation and transportation of patients for tests, procedures, etc.
* Monitors patient condition levels; reports changes to the appropriate individuals.
* Obtains and documents patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, respiration, pulse, pain, and department-specific requirements.
* Performs selected procedures per Nurse Extern checklist.
* Sets up and removes equipment and supplies; ensures equipment is functioning properly and stored appropriately.
* Performs EKGs and Point-of-Care testing which may include blood glucose, hemoccult and specific gravity testing.
* Runs special errands as required. Responds to light calls.
* Ensures patient rooms, nursing areas, supply carts, etc. are stocked with appropriate items at required levels.
* Maintains par levels of supplies and equipment on assigned unit(s). Notifies supervisor when reorder points are reached.
Common Expectations:
* Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
* Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
* Participates in educational programs and inservice meetings.
* Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
