Wellspring company history timeline

1977

Wellspring was founded in 1977 by Drs.

1981

In 1981, the Women’s Halfway House became the first women’s residential program in Maine.

1984

In 1984, Wellspring was the smallest mental health facility in the country to receive accreditation by The Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Hospitals – the standard bearer for such centers nationwide.

1987

1987 — Mental Health Services — A licensed clinical social worker serves as clinical director.

1987 – Project Rebound — Wellspring was awarded a contract by the Office of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention to provide intermediate term (six to nine month) residential rehabilitation services for adolescents.

1988

Project Rebound opened its doors on the campus of University College May 2, 1988, and served adolescent males, ages 14 to 19, offering individualized treatment and an in-house accredited school program.

1988 – Anne Armstrong Gibson is diagnosed with Cancer

In 1988, the contract was terminated when the department hired its own substance abuse counselors.

1990

The Arch Bridge School is Wellspring’s private special education school that began in 1990 when Wellspring added adolescent residents to their program.

1990 — Dual Disorder Project — Wellspring and Community Health and Counseling Services (CHCS) joined forces to provide outpatient psychoeducational services to the dually disordered—those suffering from the combined diseases of substance addiction and mental illness.

1991

1991 – Wellspring is registered as a non-profit organization

1992

Wellspring was born in September of 1992, with a holistic vision of spiritual growth and specific training experiences in spiritual companioning and leadership.

In 1992, Wellspring opened its first centre, The Coach House, on Wellesley Street East in Toronto.

1995

Project Rebound closed April 21, 1995, because of Medicaid reimbursement problems.

Although Anne died in 1995, her vision still guides the organization’s growing network, a network that now serves individuals and families living with cancer across Canada.

1995 – Anne Armstrong Gibson dies

1997

In 1997, the school was approved by the State of Connecticut as a Private Special Education Facility.

1999

In 1999, Wellspring launched its second centre, in north Toronto, on the campus of Sunnybrook & Women’s College Health Sciences Centre.

1999 – Wellspring Sunnybrook (Westerkirk House) opens

The dual disorder project was discontinued in 1999.

2000

2000 – Wellspring London opens

2000 – Juvenile Justice Network – Wellspring Outpatient Services was selected as a member of a network to provide individual treatment services to adolescents involved with the juvenile drug courts.

2001

2001 – Wellspring Niagara opens

2001 – Charleston Correction Facility – Wellspring Outpatient Services was awarded a contract from the State of Maine Office of Substance Abuse (OSA) to provide individual and group substance abuse counseling at the prison.

2002

2002 – Wellspring Centre of Innovation is founded

2003

Founded in 2003 as a spin-off of Carnegie Mellon University, Wellspring soon became the preeminent tech transfer solution provider for universities and research institutes.

2003 – Transitional Apartments – The Bangor Halfway House purchased two buildings to be used as transitional housing for people completing Wellspring treatment programs.

2004

Nine affordable rental units opened in 2004 for graduates of substance abuse treatment programs.

2006

In 2006, Wellspring opened operations in Lisbon, Portugal, to manage the European market.

Flintbox originally worked primarily with Canadian universities and subsequently partnered with the Kauffman Foundation in 2006 to provide the technology behind Kauffman's iBridge Network, focused on the United States university market.

2007

2007 – Wellspring Calgary opens

In 2007, Wellspring launched a services program, initially called Managed Development Services (MDS), to incubate university-based start-up companies in Western Pennsylvania.

2008

2008 – Wellspring Chinguacousy opens

2008 – Center for Family Medicine SBIRT Program – Partnering with the Center for Family Medicine under a three-year MeHAF grant, Wellspring provided onsite screening and referral services, Suboxone counseling services, and consultation to CFM staff.

2008 – Outpatient Mental Health Center – Wellspring was licensed to provide outpatient mental health counseling and assessments in 2008.

Wellspring launched a new version of its flagship software product in 2008, renamed the Sophia Knowledge Management System.

2011

The Cambridge offices were also closed in 2011.

In 2011, Wellspring acquired FolioDirect, a Flintbox competitor, which was launched at the University of New Mexico.

2012

Mental health services expanded to halfway house residents in 2012.

2012 – Family Treatment Drug Court – As a part of the drug court team, Wellspring has provided substance abuse evaluations to all candidates for this program, offering specialized groups for participants, serving on the steering committee, and participating in weekly team meetings.

2017

2017 – Wellspring Edmonton opens

2019

2019 – Wellspring starts to offer online programs, available across Canada

2020

In April 2020, the Company secured a PPP loan for US $889,700 reporting 45 employees with an average salary of ~ $ 94,000 \ year.

Two more capital raises were reported in 2020 total $1.9 million. www.formds.com
