Job Summary:
This front‐line resource position in the laboratory requires exercise of independent judgment and responsibilities. Supervision: Oversees daily operations of waived and non‐waived laboratory testing in areas other than the main laboratory. Technical: Performs POCT tests and related correlation procedures according to site and system‐approved protocols. Materials: Maintains site equipment, supplies and service contracts to support lab site services within budget. Compliance: Performs site quality management activities for testing, policies, accreditation and licensure. Education: Oversees nursing staff training and competency assessments in all areas of POCT. Performs other duties as assigned: works the bench as needed.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Oversees training of new employees on computer/IT lab systems * Proficient use of lab IT systems. * Develops and implements comprehensive training program to meet orientation/annual competency requirements. * Trains new employees on all aspects of lab information systems to include Sunquest (SmartTerm), Middleware (WAM, Mysis, Instrument Manager, BD Computer) and Epic. * Learns and maintains knowledge of updates/upgrades with the lab information system and educates staff. * Serves as a resource for staff, troubleshoots IT issues, communicates with system lab IT team as needed to find resolution. Oversees daily operations of waived and non‐waived laboratory testing in areas other than the main laboratory * Work with nursing personnel, care givers, medical providers and act as a department resource. Maintains open dialog with staff at testing locations, working to identify and resolve POCT issues. * Monitor operations with attention to detail and use problem solvings skills to assist quality patient care. * Work without direct supervision, be self‐directed and be able to prioritize tasks to support efficient and effective operations. * Participates in decisions regarding implementation of POCT in new locations, with evaluation of need, expense, logistics and customer service advantages of requested tests. Performs POCT tests and related correlation procedures according to site and system‐approved protocols * Coordinates the evaluation of potential POC testing systems and performance of appropriate comparative studies. * Coordinates the validation and implementation of new equipment and test methods. * Coordinates 6‐month correlation studies for all appropriate analyzers and analytes. * Writes new equipment or test method procedures for approval by the system POCT medical directors. Maintains site equipment, supplies and monitors service contracts to support laboratory services budget * Demonstrates knowledge of all POCT equipment and systems. * Acts as a resource for troubleshooting analyzer concerns and can assist users in separating patient sample and quality control issues from analyzer failures. * Coordinate replacement of defective instruments in a timely manner to reduce impact on patient care. * Monitors test reagent supply levels and coordinates validation of acceptability before release for patient testing. Oversees nursing staff training and competency assessments in all areas of POCT * Develops and implements comprehensive training programs to meet regulatory training requirements. * Monitors appropriateness of staff to perform patient testing and requires staff re‐training, as needed. * Work with POCT vendors to obtain expert trainer assistance for WellStar users. * Maintains proficiency testing program to encompass all users and regulatory requirements. Performs site quality management activities for testing, policies, accreditation and licensure * Tracks appropriate Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement indicators to assure compliance with POCT policies. * Is proficient with computer software necessary for data management and document/spreadsheet reports. * Monitors compliance with WellStar Patient Safety policies and all regulatory standards for patient safety. * Submits reports and implements corrective action plans for testing areas that demonstrate problems achieving acceptable levels of compliance with testing regulations and policies. Reports to Pharmacy Department OR Emergency Services As an integral member of the Emergency Department team the Medication History Specialist (MHS) is responsible for working with patients who have been identified for admission to the hospital in order to obtain and document the best possible medication history. The MHS role is essential to assure high quality and safe care by reducing medication duplications, ommissions and possible errors. Must complete an aseptic technique check off to show compliance with USP 797t, conducted by supervisor or approved IV Tech. Must be trained under direct supervision and final approval by the pharmacist or supervisors.
b.Small volume‐ (IVPB) these items will be prepared upon demand or with the IV batch using aseptic technique.
c.Specialty solutions‐ epidural, intrathecal, IVIG, Prolastin, sterile syringes and chemotherapy will be made as required.
d.Syringes‐ Neonatal syringes (when applicable) will be made daily in the A.M. and given a 24 hours expiration date. A pharmacist prior to preparing syringes must check all admixtures.
e.Large volume‐ (LVA) Electrolytes, KCL and maintenance fluids will be made as needed or with the IV batch.
f.TPN‐ must be trained / approved to calibrate and operate the total parenteral nutrition machine. (when applicable) must identify correct additive to be used, a pharmacist must check prior to injecting additives.
g.TPN Equipment‐ (when applicable) must clean, disassemble and reassemble all tubing. Replace all additives and run all required reports.
h.Room cleaning and restocking‐ IV hood must be cleaned every shift and/or as needed to maintain sterile work surface. IV room must be restocked every shift or as needed. IV room must be clean atall times and cleared of any cardboard boxes, etc. Always ensure that all requirements and procedures of are met.

a.User‐ must be capable of accurately adding new users to the PYXIS system.
b.Product‐ must properly load cubies with correct medications. After checked by a pharmacist, cubie should be loaded into PYXIS. Monitor par levels, increase or decrease as needed.
c.Reports‐ must be able to generate needed reports to fill, track, and identify/report all discrepancies.

* Ensures that patient's questions, concerns or contraindications are satisfactorily addressed, notifying physician when this cannot be accomplished, prior to the initiation of the procedure.

Quality Control
* Consistently produces high quality images including appropriate collimation, shielding, technique selection, penetration and positioning.
* Ensures that equipment is fully operational prior to each use, by checking for proper calibration and operating deficiencies.
* Sends all studies to PACS; prints CDs as necessary. All exams are complete in RIS including image oriented, marked, labeled, and notes are accurate.
* Studies that have been transmitted after hours by teleradiography are printed and scanned into PACS, if applicable.
* Checks for prior exams and assures that they are loaded, if necessary, and properly labeled prior to sending to PACS.
Operations
* Restocks linens and supplies, and maintains Diagnostic Imaging Services in clean and orderly condition.
* Transports patients, positions patients, and helps them on and off procedure table.
* Performs patient charging activities on the day the service is rendered.
* Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices and equipment.
* Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others upon request as needed and routinely as time is available, without prompting, so that all working time is used for departmental advantage.
* Performs routine duties of clerical and support personnel in accordance with procedure when warranted to
* ensure continuity and quality of services.
* Keeps supervisor informed on all responsibilities on an ongoing basis, ensuring prompt notification in the event of problems or potential problems.

Job Summary:
The Medical Assistant (MA) provides support to physicians and other healthcare professionals by performing clinical and administrative tasks to ensure efficient patient care delivery. The MA works closely with patients, handling both front‐ and back‐office functions in a fast‐paced medical setting. The Medical Assistant functions under the direction of the Nurse Supervisor and/or Practice/Office Manager.
