Job Summary and Qualifications
Performs Imaging studies of various parts of the body to assist physicians in the diagnosis of disease and injury.
* Positions and prepares patients for exams according to the type of procedure to be performed
* Assesses patients throughout procedures and responds to patient needs as appropriate
* Completes appropriate documentation for each study performed, including all computer and PACS functions
* Observes safety regulations and aseptic practice techniques to protect patients and staff
* Demonstrates knowledge of universal protocols, and uses professional judgment and critical thinking skills when performing procedures
* Assists with orientation and training of new staff and instructs students during their clinical rotations
* Performs sonograms including Ob/Gyn, abdominal, cerebral, vascular, pediatrics, small part scans, and other necessary studies
* Participates in the improvement of operational functions of the department
* Monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care and practices identifying opportunities for improvement through collaboration
* Performs all other duties as assigned
What qualifications you will need:
* Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
* (RDMS) Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
* (RVT) Registered Vascular Technician
* Associate Degree

What you will do
Selects appropriate equipment/transducer for use in ultrasound setup according to specifications of examination/protocol. Selects transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to organ to be examined, depth of field, and other specifications of test. Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
Demonstrates knowledge of and performs department exam protocols. Explains process to patient, and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination.
Accurately enters required data into Lumedx (PACS) system.
Completes and participates in Quality Improvement evaluation as needed/assigned.
Starts equipment, which produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, strip printout, or film. Photographs images of organs shown on display module, or removes strip printout from equipment, to obtain permanent record of internal examination.
Disinfects equipment and area.
Participates in training of Washburn University students as directed.
Demonstrates knowledge of and performs proper high-level disinfection processes for probe care. (If applicable)
Cardiac Sonographers Perform IV puncture, utilizing proper injection techniques while injecting endocardial border enhancing agents.
Rotating call is a requirement of the position. (Manhattan/Emporia exempt from call).
Selects and adds correct associated examination charges as needed.
