Job Summary Responsible for specialization in imaging a patient's heart. This role uses ultrasound equipment to examine the heart's chambers, valves, and vessels. Use both color flow and spectral Doppler to accurately evaluate cardiac stenotic and regurgitant lesions, and intracardiac shunts and other hemodynamically significant lesions. * Evaluate the hemodynamic significance of various cardiac disease states using all imaging modalities available in accordance with the department's protocols. * Operate ultrasound system and assist exercise physiologist and RN during dobutamine and stress echocardiography. * Perform diagnostic cardiovascular examinations according to standardized laboratory protocols; deviating from normal techniques when necessary to provide the best possible results. * Perform diagnostic cardiovascular examinations, recognizing the significance of all structures that are visualized, differentiating artifacts from appropriate structures, while recognizing the limitations of equipment and utilizing knowledge of anatomy and physiology. * Review patient's medical record to obtain necessary clinical information including patient history, lab results, and physician orders. * Obtains necessary clinical information from patients and compares requisitions to physicians' orders to ensure exam accuracy. Job DescriptionDescription: Performs echocardiography and transesophageal echocardiography to produce images that will be interpreted to provide a diagnosis and/or treat patients. Functions as the first line interface with customers in the successful accomplishment of their sonographic imaging. Participates in CQI activities. Responsible for the care and well-being of patients during their sonographic examinations. Responsible for obtaining and recording an accurate patient history. Instructs, prepares and assists patients for their sonographic exam. Selects appropriate equipment and techniques to produce high quality images. Able to assess patient pain interfering with the imaging procedure - makes appropriate physician/provider contact for intervention. Shall at all times work under the direction of a radiologist. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors. Performs echocardiograms on patients as ordered by a physician/provider. Identifies normal and abnormal anatomy and customizes the exam accordingly. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient including special needs, geriatric, and general population. Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's instruction. Clearly marks images with patient name, date of birth and additional identifiers as appropriate. Adheres to departmental imaging protocols. Practices medical and surgical aseptic techniques. Provides an oral or written summary to the referring physician/provider, as requested. Performs QA and QC and maintains accurate logs, as appropriate.
