Lecturer (Part-Time) West Virginia University School of Nursing Family and Community Health West Virginia University School of Nursing invites applications for a (non-benefits eligible, non-tenure track) part-time (FTE 0.20), 12-month, Lecturer position to teach in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Nurse Anesthetist Program. This position will report to the Chair of the Family and Community Health Department.
The Lecturer works collaboratively with the Program Director and Assistant Program Director, reports to the Department Chair, and functions as a nurse anesthetist academic and clinical faculty member. In the academic role, the Lecturer is responsible for graduate-level course management, in-class and simulation instruction, student advising and DNP project mentoring. In the clinical role, the incumbent is flexible to choose the site of practice in an approved position independent of the School of Nursing.
Essential Duties:
* Designs and provides expert instruction to nurse anesthetist program students in didactic, simulation, and clinic settings through innovative approaches.
* DNP project committee participation, including advising as a Faculty of Record for up to 8 DNP projects.
* Serves on committees of the program and assists with admissions of nurse anesthetist cohorts.
* Regularly review COA and West Virginia University School of Nursing policies including mission, vision and values, program outcomes, master course grid, administrative policies and procedures, self-study reports, committee meeting minutes, current course content and learning outcomes, examinations and testing materials.
* Serves as a role model for clinical excellence.
* Responsive and accessible to student inquiries.
* Promotes a climate of collegiality and teamwork throughout the school.
* Exemplifies and promotes ethical and professional standards for individual and organizational behavior and decision-making.
* Maintains current education and clinical skills to pursue excellence in job performance, to cope with a dynamic academic and clinical environment, and to ensure success of the program.
* Maintains CRNA certification and active practice as a CRNA.
* Represents the DNP and Nurse Anesthetist programs to external audiences, and represents the programs interests of the School of Nursing.
* Participates in local, regional, and national specialty committees and organizations to be current on environmental issues that may affect the nurse anesthetist program and practice.
Qualifications:
Academic
* Terminal doctorate from an accredited institution.
Certifications
* An unencumbered nursing license, or if out of state, be eligible for licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of West Virginia.
* Active certification or recertification as a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) by the National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
Experience:
* Three (3) years of clinical practice as a CRNA clinician, preferred.
* One (1) year of clinical education experience, preferably within a nurse anesthetist program, including curriculum development, evaluation, and instruction, preferred.
Rank and salary commensurate with education, professional background and experience.

(Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8)
* Thirty-six semester hours of post-secondary education or its equivalent in subjects directly related to performance of the paraprofessional job and as approved by the West Virginia State Board of Education in Policy 5202;
* Successfully complete the current state competency exam for the aide classification pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8e and WV State Board Policy 5202;
* Ability to facilitate instruction and provide direct and indirect supervision of students under the direction of a professional educator;
* Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, students, staff and the general public consistent with the duties of this position;

Responsible to the Unit Director/Manager for the overall nursing practice of the unit during the shift assigned. In the absence of the Unit Director/Manager, the RN is responsible to the Clinical Supervisor, Charge Nurse or the Clinical Coordinator of the shift.
Provides professional nursing care based on current nursing knowledge through use of the nursing process. This includes the responsibility for assessment of the patient's needs, development of the plan of care to meet those needs, implementation of nursing measures and evaluation of the effectiveness of the nursing care and other treatment measures.
The Flexible Practice Unit Registered Nurses obtain their shift assignments from the Nursing Administration Office and are assigned throughout the Medical Center where needed by nursing management. Flexible Practice Unit Registered Nurses may be given multiple unit assignments in any one (1) shift.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Completion of an accredited registered nurse program required; BSN preferred.
A trauma nurse course is required within one year of assignment to the department.
Experience:
One year Critical Care/ ED experience if rotating to ED, MICU/SICU, or PACU
Charge qualified preferred.

Flexible Practice nurses must be competent in IV therapy including insertion and maintenance of IV's, and blood administration and blood products. Monitoring and use of Central lines, A-Ports and Picc lines including lab draws.
