Key Responsibilities: Conduct advanced research in rare metals recovery and recycling from electrochemical batteries, focusing on lithium-ion, sodium-ion, and next-generation battery systems. Develop and optimize processes for rare metal extraction and recycling, leveraging expertise in electrochemical techniques, surface analysis, and material characterization. Synthesize and characterize electro-active materials such as cathodes, ionic liquids, and solid-state electrolytes. This position will assist students, research scientists, and PI with ongoing research projects on telomere biology, plant and microbial biotechnology and stress tolerance. In addition, assist with procurement for research supplies and equipment and the upkeep and maintenance of laboratory equipment. The fellow will employ a multidisciplinary approach utilizing the tools of molecular biology, bioinformatics and Arabidopsis genetics and genomics to explore the functions of putative telomere regulatory- genes and to gain evolutionary perspective on funectional gene-pleiotropy as it impacts telomere length regulation. Essential Functions: Works in a research laboratory environment. Must be familiar with chemical hygiene and bio safety procedures, and willing to accept training in such procedures. Will perform laboratory research procedures under the direction of the PL Grow and analyze plants and microbes. Utilize molecular biology techniques, such as DNA extraction, real-time PCR , Westerns, cloning, plasmid and protein purification. Assist in the preparation of reagents and of plant samples for sequencing and functional analyses. Assist in experiments on the molecular, genetic and epigenetic mechanisms oftelomere length maintenance. Assist in experiments on the role of environmental stress on plant biology. Assist with biotechnology projects with microbial and green moss species. Develop, troubleshoot and optimize molecular and biochemical assays from samples collected from growth chamber, greenhouse, and field experiments. Prepare libraries for next-generation sequencing and participate in bioinformatics analysis of telomere length and stress data. Collaborate with lab members and collaborators at other universities in planning and completing experiments, processing samples, and managing data storage and quality control. Postdoctoral fellow position (1 position) is currently available in the Department of Clinical Translational Sciences at Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, Huntington WV. The current research focus of the PI Dr. Uma Sundaram and his associated PIs include studies on novel physiological and molecular mechanisms of altered intestinal nutrient and electrolyte transport in obesity, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, in response to intestinal infection by enteric pathogens and as modulated by beneficial gut bacteria. This research will involve the formulation and testing of hypotheses, animal experimentation and surgery, cell culture, intestinal organoid culture, molecular and cell biology techniques and imaging techniques. The postdoctoral fellows will be expected to be current in the field literature, to plan and conduct experiments, interpret data and publish results. Successful candidates will have a significant record of accomplishment that demonstrates creativity and initiative and will be working as a team closely with the PI in his well-equipped state-of- the- art research facility. Job Responsibilities: Conduct active lab research on a semi-independent basis at the beginning and on an independent basis afterwards.
