Westborough High School company history timeline

1800

On this land, in the mid-1800's, Christopher Whitney, owner of a box factory and Whitney Hotel, built his mansion, which became a local showcase.

1854

The first high school in Westborough had been built in 1854 on Science Hill on School Street.

Starting in 1854 (168 years ago) (1854), Silas Stone taught 20 subjects.

1872

In 1872, the first seniors graduated; there were three in that graduating class.

The school eventually became graded and graduated its first class of three in 1872.

1900

Pupils will learn about the making of America, 1789-1900 and understand how and why American territory expanded during these years and the relationship between this expansion and the culture of indigenous Americans, African Americans and white Americans.

1920

The property was sold in 1920 to the Aronson cattle dealers who hosted regular cattle auctions on the site.

1926

The Forbes built and presented to the town a new high school in 1926, on the site of the former Whitney Hotel.

1936

1936—Alexander Harley and his wife Frances founded the Maine Music Masters at Maine Township High School in Park Ridge, IL.

1952

1952—Maine Music Masters became incorporated and was renamed Modern Music Masters.

1953

The second was the 1953 tornado that struck the Aronson property and fields, killing three of the Aronsons and a hired man.

1954

1954—The first individual member recognition, known as the Top-Notcher Certificate of Achievement, was presented.

1960

Westborough was built in 1960 and continues to go from strength to strength.

1968

The present Westborough High School, with a capacity of 1,000 students, was built in 1968 on 30 acres in the heart of Westborough.

The growth in the school population called for another move in 1968 to the current well-equipped facility. "Special Thanks to Kris Allen"

1971

1971—First Master Musician Certificate was presented.

1983

1983—Modern Music Masters became a program of MENC: The National Association for Music Education and was officially renamed the Tri-M Music Honor Society.

1986

1986—The first year Tri-M was recognized by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) as an approved program.

1989

1989—The first State Conference Achievement Recognition was presented to Tri-M members accepted to All-State Honor Ensembles.

2002

2002—The Top-Notcher Recognition was renamed Tri-M Leadership.

2003

2003—The State Conference Achievement Recognition was renamed Honor Ensemble Achievement and was expanded to recognize Tri-M member participation in state, division, and national honor ensembles.

2003—The first Tri-M Outstanding Service Recognition was presented.

2004

2004—The first Tri-M Alumni Achievement Recognition was presented.
