Overview
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate EmergencyMedicineTechnician (EMT) to join our Emergency Department team. In this role, you will work under the supervision of Physicians and Registered Nurses to perform direct patient care duties and assist with various medical procedures. As a vital member of our emergency care team, you'll help ensure efficient patient flow while providing excellent care to patients of all ages.
Responsibilities
* Obtain/record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and pulse oximetry
* Perform venipunctures, EKGs, blood glucose monitoring, and various point-of-care testing
* Assist with orthopedic splinting, wound cleaning, and preparation
* Assist physicians during various procedures/emergencies (trauma, cardiac, respiratory, etc.)
* Collect and accurately label blood specimens
* Perform 1:1 psychiatric monitoring when needed
* Apply cardiac monitors and report observations to nursing staff
* Assist with establishing IV catheters under nursing supervision
* Transport patients safely within the facility and between facilities
* Prepare equipment and treatment areas for procedures
* Maintain clean patient care areas and properly stock supplies
* Provide compassionate care with strong customer service focus
Qualifications
* High School Diploma or Equivalent
* Current New York State EMT Certification
* BCLS Certification required
* ACLS Certification preferred (PALS if caring for children)
* Minimum 2 years' experience in direct patient care (5 years preferred)
* Strong technical skills for patient care procedures

Overview
Maimonides is currently seeking an experienced Paramedic to render basic and emergency life support to patients in the pre-hospital and inter-hospital setting.
Responsibilities
* Handle treatment and patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
* Treat patients in accordance with New York City and State Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) guidelines. Documents and is held accountable for, all medical treatment personally rendered to patients. Demonstrates a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail; prepares reports and statistics completely and accurately.
* Inspect assigned ambulance daily to account for all medical equipment and ensure it is in proper working condition and all mechanical components are operating properly.
* Operate ambulance in a safe, courteous manner while obeying all traffic laws.
* Maintain interior and exterior cleanliness of vehicle and equipment.
* Work in conjunction with Ambulance/ED operations during EMS disasters.
* Operate an on-board computer system and telemetry unit.
* Inspect, monitor and document medication of patients in accordance with NYC and State EmergencyMedical Service (EMS) and MMC Pharmacy guidelines.
* Utilize transport Isolette, intra-aortic balloon pump, ventilators, medication administration pumps, and invasive monitoring equipment during inter-facility transports.
Perform the following invasive medical procedures based on clinical judgement:
Peripheral intravenous insertion; central intravenous insertion; administration of medications via intravenous route, subcutaneous or intramuscular injection; endotracheal intubation; esophageal intubation; insertion of nasogastric/orogastric tube; defibrillation; synchronized cardioversion; administration of inhaled and sublingual medications; needle cricothyrodotomy; needle decompression of the thorax; intraosseous cannulation; obtaining and interpretation of cardiac rhythm.

Overview
Scrubs on surgical procedures and assists the professional nurse to create and maintain aseptic standards for a proper, safe surgical environment.
Responsibilities
1.* Treatment and Patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
2.* Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
A. SCRUB DUTIES
3.* Carries out accepted scrub, gown and gloving techniques.
4.* Follows recommended sequence in organizing sterile supplies, instruments and sutures; understands specific uses of all instruments, equipment and supplies used for the surgical procedure.
5.* Sets up sterile tray; checks for completeness and proper functioning of equipment and supplies.
6.* Maintains neat and orderly back table and mayo tray to facilitate surgeon requests and provide patient care in a timely fashion.
7.* Carries out sponge, instrument and needle counts.
8.* Assists all scrubbed personnel in gowning and gloving.
9.* Hands instruments to the surgeon, has sponges, instruments, sutures, medications and solutions ready as needed.
10.* Saves and hands to circulating nurse all cultures and specimens taken during surgery.
11.* Assists in dressing the surgical site.
12.* Assists in the removal of all instruments and supplies for the disposition after surgery is completed.
13.* Assists with positioning, transfer and transport of patients as assigned.
14.* Utilizes established channels of communication to report significant changes in patient condition, problems with equipment, instrumentation, supplies, etc.
B. EMERGENCY MEASURES
15.* Responds appropriately in crisis situations by demonstrating knowledge of emergency procedures, remaining calm, and functioning properly in emergencies.
16.* Performs CPR.
C. SAFETY
17.* Checks to ensure that emergency equipment is on hand and in good working order.
18.* Recognizes and reports malfunction or failure of equipment used in the OR to Biomedical Engineering; takes appropriate action to repair/replace such equipment (e.g., cardiac monitors, defibrillators, suction apparatus, etc.).

Overview
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs basic, routine duties related directly and indirectly to patient care.
Responsibilities
A. DIRECT PATIENT CARE
1.* Obtains and records on Flow Sheet and electronic record, patient's temperature (oral, rectal, temporal) pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry reading, and reports deviations from age-appropriate norms to primary or charge nurse.

10.* Cares for patients in restraints as per Hospital Policy PROF #62.
11.* Assists RN with cardiac support and monitoring; applies cardiac monitor, admit/discharge from monitor and reports basic observations regarding skin color and moisture to the RN.
12.* Assists physician/nurse with treatments, diagnostic procedures (e.g., positions and holds patient).
13. Communicates effectively with Primary and/or Charge Nurse and other members of the
health care team regarding patient's needs, requests and/or changes in patient's condition.
14. Initiates age-appropriate skin care bundle for all patients at risk for pressure ulcers, incontinent patients and patients with stage I pressure ulcers.
15.* Assists RN with respiratory support: (not initial application), applies O2 face mask, nasal cannula, pulse oximetry, oral suctioning, chest PT and incentive spirometer. Prepares equipment for trach care.
16. Answers all call lights and patients requests in a timely fashion.
17.* Downloads EKG's and retrieves EKG's from data base.
18.* Transports patients to other rooms on current patient care unit.
B. PATIENT CARE-RELATED DUTIES
19. Performs hand off communication at bedside.

24.* Answers telephones, prepares admission/discharge charts as required.
25.* Stocks and maintains supplies and equipment in area as directed (par level); reports need to restock to manager and/or designee.
26. Applies principles of infection control by following proper handwashing techniques, and isolation precautions.

What We're Looking For
High school diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology Program.
NYS Diagnostic Radiology (Nuclear Medicine) License.
NMTCB or ARRT Certification.
Strong understanding of nuclear medicine principles and procedures.

Overview
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs basic, routine duties related directly and indirectly to patient care.
Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES
A. DIRECT PATIENT CARE
1.* Obtains and records on Flow Sheet and electronic record, patient's temperature (oral, rectal, temporal) pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry reading, and reports deviations from age-appropriate norms to primary or charge nurse.
2.* Performs venipunctures, EKG and blood glucose monitoring as needed. Accesses labs in MACS/Sunquest.
3.* Assists patients with activities of daily living including skin care (e.g., bathes, oral care, dress, helps patient ambulate, assists/feeds patient).
4.* Applies antithrombic stockings under the directions of the RN.
5.* Assists with correctly positioning and turning patients in both bed and chair.
6.* Collects and sends specimens (e.g., urine, stool, sputum, blood).
7.* Performs foley catheter care and administers fleet enemas.
8.* Records intake (oral) and output (e.g., urinary, GI tubes and drains, vomitus and colostomy) accurately.
9.* Obtains and records height and weight of patient.
10.* Cares for patients in restraints as per Hospital Policy PROF #62.
11.* Assists RN with cardiac support and monitoring; applies cardiac monitor, admit/discharge from monitor and reports basic observations regarding skin color and moisture to the RN.
12.* Assists physician/nurse with treatments, diagnostic procedures (e.g., positions and holds patient).
13. Communicates effectively with Primary and/or Charge Nurse and other members of the
health care team regarding patient's needs, requests and/or changes in patient's condition.
14. Initiates age-appropriate skin care bundle for all patients at risk for pressure ulcers, incontinent patients and patients with stage I pressure ulcers.
15.* Assists RN with respiratory support: (not initial application), applies O2 face mask, nasal cannula, pulse oximetry, oral suctioning, chest PT and incentive spirometer. Prepares equipment for trach care.
16. Answers all call lights and patients requests in a timely fashion.
17.* Downloads EKG's and retrieves EKG's from data base.
18.* Transports patients to other rooms on current patient care unit.
B. PATIENT CARE-RELATED DUTIES
19. Performs hand off communication at bedside.
20.* Prepares equipment and patient for treatments or invasive procedures (e.g., sets up rooms, gathers equipment and trays, applies simple non-sterile dressings).
21.* Prepares pre- and post-operative beds; moves beds/furniture as necessary.
22.* Keeps patient unit and non-patient unit clean (e.g., wipe tables, cleans area, clean-up after procedures, cleans equipment between patients).
23.* Prepares area/unit with proper equipment for admission, transfer or discharge of patient.
24.* Answers telephones, prepares admission/discharge charts as required.
25.* Stocks and maintains supplies and equipment in area as directed (par level); reports need to restock to manager and/or designee.
26. Applies principles of infection control by following proper handwashing techniques, and isolation precautions.
27.* Makes frequent patient rounds to ensure patient safety and comfort.
28. Reports significant unit problems to charge nurse.
29.* Renders postmortem care (e.g., prepares body for morgue).
30.* Patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
31.* Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Promotes adherence to the Patient's Bill of Rights.
CARDIOLOGY
36.* Transports patients within the laboratory areas and to other areas within MMC as required.
37.* Prepares patients for procedures in cooperation with other members of the Cath Lab team: places electrodes in correct anatomical position so as not to interfere with fluoroscopic field; attaches patients to cardiac monitors; shaves procedural access sites. Preprocedural prep for EPS, catheterization, cardioversion, TEE, etc.
38.* Cleans and disposes of supplies and equipment properly following invasive procedures; places garbage in proper receptacles; replaces full waste containers as necessary.
Qualifications
BASIC COMPETENCIES
Education:
High School Diploma or High School Equivalency required.
Successful completion of Certified Nursing Assistant Program, or New York State Certified Nursing Assistant Program, or EMS Training.
Pass Patient Care Technician (PCT) Test (75% or greater).
Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of experience in direct patient care.
Skills:
Technical skills required for patient care.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.
