The Logistics Specialist role is responsible for managing the flow of goods from suppliers to the WPI factory, back out to value-add suppliers, and ultimately then on to end customers. This is accomplished by coordinating transportation, tracking shipments, understanding inventory positions, being connected to manufacturing output, analyzing logistics data, developing strategic relationships with carriers, and collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery while adhering to applicable regulations. The goal is to optimize supply chain efficiency and manage all costs associated with transportation. Key Responsibilities Plan, manage and evaluate logistics operations liaising with internal stakeholders, suppliers, logistics providers, transportation companies and customers Develop forecasting plans to ensure sufficient capacity at carriers Establish priorities, track shipments real-time, and ensure availability of capable providers Keep records of all shipments (Packing Lists, BOLs, receipt confirmations) Maintain shipping schedules and hit deadlines for rush shipments Monitor and report on supply chain performance metrics, such as on-time delivery, actual spend vs target, and cost savings Create and implement best practice logistics principles, policies and processes across the organization to improve operational and financial performance Drive creation of packaging requirements and lead the sourcing of these materials Negotiate rates and contracts with transportation and logistics providers Select carriers/suppliers and monitor service against performance criteria Ensure carrier compliance with company policies or procedures for product transit or delivery Resolve problems concerning transportation, logistics systems, and customer issues Review impact of logistics changes, such as routing, shipping modes, product volumes or carriers and report results to others Drive continuous improvement initiatives and identify cost optimization opportunities Interpret trends and analyze and review data. Provide meaningful logistics data to others in the organization to aid customer service and cost improvements Ensure IT systems in place are effective, maintained and accurate Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and stay updated on industry standards Location / Hours On site in Columbus, OH. Job Responsibilities: * Perform thorough document reviews, including geotechnical reports, phase I & II reports, hazardous material reports, schematic drawings, design development & construction drawings, specifications, etc. * Develop project specific estimates utilizing subcontractor and vendor pricing, historical cost data and industry cost data sources (RS Means, etc.) * Build and maintains positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, architects and engineers * Perform detailed quantity takeoffs utilizing industry takeoff software and conventional means * Develop project specific scopes of work * Develop project specific qualifications to be submitted to the Owner with RFP responses and/or Bids * Mentor estimators and teach estimating best practices Skills/Knowledge: * Ability to work cross functionally with departments * Ability to work in a team environment and take the lead role on projects * Efficiently review documents and capture overall scope of work * Understanding of construction means, methods and sequences * Familiarity and general understanding of building structures and systems * Ability to read specifications and interpret construction drawings * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Resourceful, organized and self-motivated * Capacity to work well under pressure and deliver accurate information in a timely manner * Ability to assess risk on a variety of project scopes and geographic locations Computer / Technology: * Excellent computer skills are a must, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project, Outlook, Power Point * Proficient in Microsoft Excel * Familiar with construction take-off software such as On Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, etc. * Ability to utilize online and cloud-based databases for research including construction related services such as Dodge, Construction Points, CDC, etc. Education / Experience: * A four (4) year degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business/Finance or related field * 7+ years of experience as a Commercial Estimating (Hospitality, Retail, Multi-Family, Office, Mixed-Use, etc.) * Experience working in a traditional office environment * Willingness to learn and grow within the role, company and industry Physical Demands / Working Conditions * Sitting for long periods of time Completing tasks using a computer and other office equipment * Position requires frequent talking, hearing, and vision with occasional standing, walking and reaching. * May require lifting up to 10 lbs. * Job position responsibilities are performed in a business office environment with computers, printers and phones Military Friendly Employer We value the knowledge, skills and abilities you acquired in the military.
