JOB TITLE: CUSTODIAN
DEPARTMENT: HOUSING SERVICES
FLSA: NON-EXEMPT
REPORTS TO: FACILITY MANAGER
SALARY: $19.23 hourly
SUMMARY: Performs all custodial related duties to maintain a safe and clean facility, including interior and exterior grounds. Proof of Covid-19 Vaccination required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Complete all scheduled custodial duties in accordance with custodian cleaning checklist.
Clean and maintain upkeep of exterior grounds as scheduled and as needed based on the weather.
Clean floors, hallways and common areas including vacuuming, buffing, and waxing floors.
Prepares vacant units for re-occupancy as scheduled.
Assembles and arranges furniture as needed.
Assists with room turnovers; dusts and polishes furniture.
Cleans and maintains office areas.
Checks and replaces all interior and exterior light bulbs.
Assists with minor maintenance and building repairs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED required. Previous experience or work history with the ability and desire to learn building custodial services. Experience with buffing and other cleaning equipment a must. Must communicate appropriately with peers and management and to exhibit patience and understanding towards the client population being served. Position requires some weekend and/or evening hours.

Overview:

Primary:

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of Ali Forney Center sites, including residential, administrative, clinical, and mixed-use sites. This role ensures a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for clients, staff, and visitors. The Custodian will perform various cleaning tasks, maintain supplies, and report any maintenance or safety concerns.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Cleaning and Sanitation:
Maintain the cleanliness of assigned sites.
Ensure a hospitable, professional, and organized environment.
Perform thorough cleaning of all assigned areas, including:
Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors.
Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, kitchens, and common areas.
Emptying trash and recycling bins.
Dusting and wiping down surfaces.
Cleaning windows, mirrors, and vents.
Ensure proper sanitation and hygiene standards are maintained.
Ensure proper disposal of sharps, waste, and recycling per NYC Sanitation schedule.
Use appropriate cleaning products and equipment.
Supply Management:
Monitor and maintain adequate supplies of cleaning materials, hygiene products, and toiletries.
Report supply needs to the Operations Manager.
Ensure proper storage of cleaning supplies and tools.
Grounds Upkeep:
Maintain the cleanliness of exterior grounds, including sweeping sidewalks, removing debris, snow removal, salt application, landscaping, and trash pickup.
Safety and Security:
Report any maintenance issues, needed repairs, or safety hazards to the Operations Manager.
Ensure all cleaning equipment and supplies are stored safely.
Follow all safety protocols and procedures.
Communication and Reporting:
Communicate effectively with staff and clients.
Report any cleaning or maintenance issues to the Operations Manager.
Respond to cleaning requests from staff and clients.
Attend weekly staff, client, and resident meetings as required.
Attend weekly supervision with direct manager.
Site Coverage:
Travel between assigned sites as needed.
Remain on call for after hour emergencies when required.
Ensure that sites are kept to the highest standards.

Overview:
The Floater Custodian is responsible for cleaning and maintaining residential buildings and their grounds. The Floater Custodian is also responsible for performing maintenance and repair work in accordance with work orders, projects, and apartment turnovers. This position will support facilities and maintenance operations at different properties, as needed. Weekly work schedules will be provided with a minimum of one week's notice; however, twice each month, if it is necessary, 72-hour notice to fill a shift will be required.
Responsibilities:
Primary:
Adhere to the custodial and preventative maintenance plan to ensure that the facility's common spaces -- pantry area, bathrooms, offices, residential spaces -- are clean, sanitary, and properly stocked with supplies.
Secondary:
Participate in monthly inspections to ensure compliance with requirements, cleanliness, and proper upkeep of the facility.
Assist in the apartment/room turnover process by cleaning out and preparing apartments for new residents.
Perform necessary painting, repairs, and installations as part of the turnover process.
Emptying trash bins, shredders and recycling bins throughout the day and sanitize containers weekly.
Properly clean rugs, carpets, and floors daily.
Buffing and polishing floors monthly and cleaning carpets monthly.
Dusting and vacuuming all offices and common spaces, and polishing applicable metal work, as needed.
Move and assemble office furniture when necessary.
Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Experience working with cleaning supplies, tools & power tools, and some familiarity with building materials.
Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
Experience with and proven commitment to working with low-income and marginalized communities, as well as individuals with multiple chronic medical and/or behavioral health conditions.
Dependable and flexible
Able to maintain a high level of client confidentiality.

SUMMARY: Performs all custodial related duties to maintain a safe and clean facility, including interior and exterior grounds. Proof of Covid-19 Vaccination required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Complete all scheduled custodial duties in accordance with custodian cleaning checklist.
