Dr. Schwartz is founding President and former CEO of WESTMED Medical Group (WMG) which was formed in 1996. He is also the former CEO of Optum Practice Partners (OPP) a physician management services company, which was formed in 2011 and acquired by Optum in 2014.Since its founding, the medical group has grown to over 350 physicians as a multi-specialty group practice with 10 locations in Westchester County, New York and Fairfield CT. WMG embraced the triple aim and is proud to have transitioned to value-based care with a successful ACO and strong results for quality efficiency and service. In his medical career, Dr. Schwartz has been committed to improving the health of the community by providing coordinated, efficient, quality patient care. To accomplish this goal, he and WESTMED were early adopters of healthcare IT, collaborating with many innovative IT vendors in the areas of process and system redesign to improve care. OPP has continued to focus on lean ambulatory healthcare transformation. Improvements in both operational and clinical efficiency were achieved with analytically-based work flow redesign facilitated by extensive use of automated rules and tasking engines.At WESTMED , Dr. Schwartz articulated WESTMED’s culture: to be the best place for patients to receive care, the best place for physicians to practice medicine and the best place for employees to work. Medical Specialties: Dr. Schwartz is a hematologist and oncologist with board certification in internal medicine, medical oncology, hematology and blood banking.

Barney Newman, M.D., Medical Director Emeritus for the WESTMED Medical Group, is a retired board-certified internist who practiced primary care internal medicine and had over 33 years of progressive responsibility as a physician leader. He was a co-founder and Medical Director for WESTMED Medical Group from 1999-2015. From its founding in 2011 till his retirement in 2015, Dr. Newman was also Chief Medical Officer for WESTMED Practice Partners, a Management Services Organization. He previously held a position as Associate Regional Medical Director for the Northeast Permanente Medical Group with Kaiser Permanente.

Dr. Newman focused his career on organizing physicians in comprehensive delivery systems that were clinically integrated and delivered high quality care. At the time of his retirement, WESTMED had grown to 300 physicians who cared for more than 300,000 patients. WESTMED is nationally recognized for its outstanding quality of care and use of state-of-the-art healthcare information technology.

Dr. Newman held multiple academic appointments finishing his career with an academic appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor at Cornell Medical College. He served on the Editorial Advisory Board for The Permanente Journal and as the Managed Care Editor for Medscape. Dr. Newman was awarded the Dorland People's Choice Medical Director in 2011 and the Mary Ann Quarantas Leadership award for Palliative Care in 2014. Dr. Newman is a member of the American College of Physicians, emeritus member of the American College of Physician Executives and was a longstanding member of the AMGA CMO Council. He currently serves on the boards of the Collaborative for Palliative Care and the Global Healthcare Innovation Management Center at Fordham University. Dr. Newman is a coauthor of a recently published textbook: \'A Public Health Strategy for Living, Aging and Dying in Solidarity: Designing Elder-Centered and Palliative Systems of Care, Environments, Services and Supports.\'
