Under the direction of the Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor, implement the therapeutic recreational needs of the residents to include physical, social, emotional, vocational, spiritual and cognitive needs. What You'll Do In This Role Implement individual recreational program for each resident as part of their overall plan of care. Provide the documentation for programs & services. Provide pertinent input to Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor regarding changes and modifications in the activity plan of care that will assist in overall program and service improvements. Document participation or regression consistent with regulatory compliance. Lead and direct activities for residents in our health care center, assisted living, and memory unit. Operate the computer and demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively; verbally and in writing to complete specific tasks related to the Therapeutic Recreation Department. Other duties to assist program staff as may be directed from time to time by the Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor. Interact with residents in a manner compliant with their rights at all times. At the direction of the Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor, implement special projects to address the needs of residents. Perform other duties as assigned. The Team Leader must maintain proper sanitation and food handling practices, and is responsible, with direction of the Dining Services Manager or Supervisors, for leading and guiding the wait staff, cashiers, bartenders, and host teams. The Team Leader must be able to make decisions independently regarding staffing and resident satisfaction issues, and will oversee all wait staff training. The Team Leader is expected to be conscious of the team's overall performance and have the knowledge to suggest ways to increase and improve performance. This will all be done while still performing as a member of the wait staff, cashier, bartender, or host teams. MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: * Assess resident nutritional needs, diet restrictions and current care plans to develop and implement nutrition plans and provide counseling; coordinate with physicians and the inter disciplinary team to deliver optimal dietary care * Approve all menus and monitor food service operations to ensure conformance to nutritional, safety, sanitation and quality standards * Advise residents and their families on nutritional principles, diet modifications and food selection * Serve as a resource for residents, staff and visitors for basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits and the link between nutrition and health * Apply accurate MDS codes according to RAI guidance, federal and state regulations, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations (CMS), and internal policies and procedures * Participate and comply with all internal (CQI) and external regulatory requirements * Additional duties as assigned EQUIPMENT: * Computer * General Office Equipment PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Ability to perform considerable walking, standing, stretching and reaching. * Ability to lift 25 pounds without assistance, 26+ pounds with manual or mechanical assistance REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY: * Knowledge of the effect of aging on dietary requirements * In-depth knowledge of current regulations as they pertain to nutrition * Ability to plan, develop, implement, publicize and evaluate nutrition programs * Excellent communication skills and ability to speak publicly. * Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. * Strong documentation, organization, budgetary and time management skills * Ability to make decisions and choices independently * Ability to deal tactfully with residents, staff, contracted instructors, venue personnel, visitors and the general public * Ability to lead and motivate residents to explore new experiences to enhance quality of life The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY: * Ability and knowledge to care for cognitively impaired individuals REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: * Bachelor's degree in food & nutrition or related field * Registered Dietitian credential as issued by the American Dietetic Association (ADA) * Maintain credentials and continuing education credits through ADA * Five years' experience working as a registered dietitian * One year experience working with elder adults, aged 65 and older DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: * One year experience working in long term care * Experience working with cognitively impaired residents REQUIRED BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES: * Ability to work within a team to achieve common goals * Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills * Caring and compassionate with a willingness to help others * Problem solving skills, innovation, and initiative * Read and understand verbal and non-verbal behavior and respond appropriately with all levels of communication
