    The Opportunity: The Senior Manager, Chemical Programs, is part of the corporate EHS team and reports to the Senior Director, EHS Auditing & Training. This role works closely with Smurfit Westrock\u2019s North American facilities in the U.S., Canada and Mexico to ensure safe and compliant chemical use across all operations, including paper mills, converting plants, distribution centers and recycling sites. The position also leads ongoing improvements in chemical management and compliance efforts. This role is based at the North American corporate headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia; however, remote work arrangements may be considered for exceptional candidates. How you will impact Smurfit Westrock: * Program Lead. Serves as the corporate subject matter expert and program lead with respect to the OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and U.S. EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) programs. Other program responsibilities may include working with our environmental engineers on matters involving the U.S. DOT Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Regulations and collaborating with our product stewardship team on Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) reporting requirements. (Note that our manufacturing processes subject to these programs primarily consist of U.S.-based integrated paper mills, some of which have pulp bleaching plants.) The role as the corporate lead for these areas will involve assisting facilities with regulatory issues and questions, preparing regulatory and technical guidance on program implementation/requirements and developing or updating internal safety and/or environmental performance standards. * Working Group Lead. Leads internal teams and working groups focused on exchanging insights and effective management strategies concerning PSM, RMP, HAZMAT, TSCA, and broader chemical management topics. * SDS Process Optimization. Oversees and drives continual improvements in the existing new chemical approval processes and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management program, which is currently centralized within our Benchmark Gensuite (BGS) safety software system. * Chemical Compatibility Program. Collaborates with site EHS teams to develop and implement protocols that prevent hazardous chemical interactions and support best practices in chemical segregation and risk mitigation. Provides ongoing support, training and guidance to facility managers and operators, enabling them to identify chemical incompatibility. * Investigations. Assists corporate and local EHS teams in investigating chemical-related incidents. * Corporate Audits. Participates in internal audits to evaluate compliance with applicable chemical regulations and related Smurfit Westrock standards. Audit participation may include development and/or revision of protocols for conducting internal audits of PSM, RMP, TSCA and related chemical program compliance. * Training. Develops and delivers training programs on chemical-related topics using a variety of training platforms, including webinars, live classroom and computer-based training. * Law/Regulation Tracking. Works with trade associations and other internal and external groups to track and analyze the applicability of new chemical laws and regulations applicable to Smurfit Westrock\u2019s North American operations, including monitoring the development of regulations relating to emerging contaminants. * Completes additional assignments and projects as requested. What you need to succeed: * Bachelor\u2019s degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, toxicology or similar technical field. * Eight or more years of experience in chemical program management with pulp and paper industry experience preferred. * Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be an effective speaker and be able to clearly articulate complex technical and regulatory requirements in simple and understandable terms. * A self-starter with a proactive mindset and the ability to work independently. * Travel (approximately 50%) limited predominantly within the U.S. but periodically to Canada and Mexico. * Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web-based data management systems.
