Position Summary
As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at our facility, you'll support nursing staff with essential daily operations and provide direct care that ensures patient well-being. Working under the clinical supervision of the Director of Nursing, your responsibilities will include:
* Assisting with activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, dressing, and hygiene
* Obtaining and recording vital signs, height, weight, fluid intake, and output
* Supporting ambulation, repositioning, and range of motion activities
* Assisting with wheelchair transfers, stretchers, and patient mobility
* Providing emotional support and responding promptly to call lights
* Cleansing and maintaining patient areas, workrooms, and equipment
* Assisting physicians or nurses during minor procedures and treatments
* Sterilizing instruments and maintaining supply inventory
* Encouraging hydration and elimination as part of daily patient care
* Documenting care activities accurately in the electronic medical record system

Description
Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a motivated, collaborative, and flexible Advanced Practice Provider to join our fast-paced inpatient Trauma & Acute Care Surgery team. As an APP on the Trauma Surgery service, you will respond to trauma activations in the ER, assist in consultations, and contribute to the management for 20-50 high-acuity patients. This is not an operative position. Must be enthusiastic about a teaching environment for trainees of all levels.
Schedule: 4x10s on weekdays (M,T,Th,F). One week per month will be 3x10s on weekdays and 1x10 on Saturday. No on-call
Essential Functions:
Demonstrates clinical expertise and expanded knowledge through patient care activities which may include diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems.
Responsible for health outcome of an assigned patient population.
Confers with collaborating physician and other health professionals in area of clinical expertise.
Develops appropriate educational systems for patients, families and staff in areas of expertise.
Mentors graduate students in aspects of advanced practice and patient care.
Actively participates in quality improvement and/or research pertinent to area of expertise.
Responsibilities:
Conducts comprehensive appraisals of patients' health status by taking health histories and performing physical examinations in clinical area.
Provides direct clinical care to patients.
Prescribes/orders medications, therapies; orders/interprets laboratory tests, x-rays and procedures according to clinical privileges.
Evaluates patients to determine their need for further health care.
Provides comprehensive teaching to patients and families.
Documents in the medical record all care and education provided and/or procedures performed for which the Licensed Advanced Practice Provider is responsible.

Qualifications
Required:

Acute care certification required for APRNs
Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a national certifying body as approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board. You are passionate about supporting physicians and mid-level providers in delivering high-quality care to clients with diverse health needs. Guided by the Chief Medical Officer or their designee, you're comfortable performing lab functions in accordance with established Laboratory Policies & Procedures and assisting providers with client care to ensure an exceptional patient experience.
What You'll Do:
Prepare client to see medical provider, collects and records data for health history to include height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration, medication, and allergies, as indicated.
Prepares room based on reason for client visits. Anticipate provider's needs and follows through on treatment protocol within their role. Prepare medical record for visit, reviewing protocols due.
Assist provider with procedures. Acts as a chaperone when necessary.
Assist patient in identifying and seeking help for specific problems. Provide education, within their scope, regarding health issues the patient is involved with. This will be under the direction of the M.D.
Schedule additional laboratory tests and makes outside referral appointments (to the hospitals) with direction from the medical provider. Records pertinent data in the medical record and utilize appropriate tracking system.
Assist in contacting patients for follow-up on missed appointments, recall testing, and outside referral appointments.
Routinely stock rooms, order necessary supplies and prepare contaminated instruments for re-sterilization following OSHA exposure control guidelines.
Participate in the orientation of new personnel to medical assistants' functions.
Call Center Duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
High School Diploma and completion of a Medical Assistant Program, or equivalent medical training.
Minimum 1 year experience in an ambulatory health care environment.
American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Certification preferred - candidates without current certification will be required to complete an Amoskeag Health-provided AHA BLS class upon hire (must be maintained)
Fluent in English reading, writing, and understanding is required for patient safety. Spanish is preferred but not required.
