Wheaton Regional Park company history timeline

1830

The 240 square foot structure was originally built prior to the Civil War and the building along with the reconstructed smoke house (circa 1830), serve as interpretive examples of early Maryland log home construction.

1960

In 1960 the county’s first naturalist, Stanton Ernst, a wildlife biologist with the New York State Conservation Department, was hired.

1978

The Conservatory displayed its first annual Chrysanthemum Show in October 1978.

1997

Wings of Fancy Live Butterfly Exhibit and the Garden of Lights both opened in 1997.

2008

Current Director: Stephanie Oberle (2008 – to date)

2009

2009 and Beyond: Brookside Gardens Master Plan The Montgomery County Planning Board approved a Master Plan for Brookside Gardens, paving the way for garden-wide renovations and improvements.
