Overview
Under general supervision, is responsible for advanced registerednursing duties of considerable difficulty based on a wide range of circumstances and performs related work as required. This classification provides registerednursing care which involves nursing assessment and diagnosis, planning, implementation/intervention, and evaluation. This class may supervise less experienced nursing staff and/or have clinical responsibility for one or more units. Incumbents of this class may function in a non-supervisory capacity if performing specialized work of significant complexity or scope such as coordinating regional/statewide programs, serving as a subject matter expert for critical departmental functions, or operating as a Charge Nurse/Floor Supervisor. An employee in this class may be assigned to workdays, evenings, nights, and/or weekends in a health care setting. This class differs from that of RegisteredNurse 4 in that an incumbent of the latter manages a nursing program or serves as an assistant director of nursing including administrative management of a health care facility.
Responsibilities
Oversees the application of nursing techniques required in care and treatment of patients to ensure efficiency of work activities. May function in a lead or subject matter expert capacity coordinating nursing programs or acting as a Charge Nurse/Floor Supervisor.
Advises less experienced nursing staff on policies and procedures and discusses methods of improvement regarding performance. Identifies developmental needs of employees and writes instructions pertaining to a specified area of nursing care operations.
Provides nursing care and procedures according to physician orders and nursing protocol including administering medication, evaluating side effects and the overall effectiveness of medications, maintaining health care equipment and supplies, tracking drugs and instruments, performing basic life support, CPR, and participating in emergency response settings.
Evaluates nursing plan of care and makes adjustments as needed. Reviews records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Resolves disputes among employees following organizational policies and procedures. Implements corrective measures as needed.
