Whitfield School company history timeline
In 1952 John Barnes and Allen Cole purchased Dumford Academy, located on Bartmer Avenue, and renamed it Whitfield School.
When it became part of the Pontiac School District, kindergarten through sixth grade only were taught.In 1953, a two-story addition was built which housed six classrooms.
In June, 1959, the enrollment was 715 students.Former pupils and teachers have fond memories of Whitfield School.
Trey Whitfield School has been operating since 1983 under the visionary leadership of Janie C. Whitney and A.B. Whitfield, providing an extraordinarily high quality elementary education (Nursery through 8th Grade) to a diverse population of children in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Daniel Whitfield was closed in 1991 after 64 years of community service because of Pontiac School District budget problems.
A 2008 construction project expanded the parking lot.
