Responsibilities Performs a comprehensive assessment of child's development, temperament, coping style, medical plan and available social supports to develop an individualized treatment plan; utilizes therapeutic play techniques as a diagnostic and treatment tool. Utilizes developmentally appropriate methods to prepare children and/or families for diagnostic and treatment procedures. Utilizes stress reduction techniques to facilitate adaptive coping and provides emotional support during identified stress points. Facilitates a therapeutic play program in cooperation with the Activities Coordinators promoting self-healing, self-expression, understanding and mastery; involves family and patient in selection of treatment goals, plans and implementation of daily child life activities. Maintains a working relationship with parent and families and provides supportive services to the entire family unit. Supports family bonds and utilizes family strengths in the care of the child. Provides parent education in the area of child development and collaborate with families regarding patients goals, progress and discharge plan. Plans, coordinates, implements, and/or supervises activities for patients including , special events, outside group entertainment, patient birthday parties, as well as, in-house group programs such as , arts and crafts, expressive arts, medical play, baking group, preschool play and other recreation and diversionary/non-structured activities in the Therapeutic Recreation/Child Life Department. Supports the School re-entry program by working cooperatively with the team in preparing patients for re-entry to their home schools. When appropriate, travels to the patient's home school to directly implement the re-entry. Plans and coordinates therapeutic outings with the TR Specialist as appropriate for patient care. This is not an all-inclusive list of this job's responsibilities. The incumbent may be required to perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. JOB SUMMARY: The Youth Care Specialist II (YCS) provides direct services to LGBTQ+ youth and caregivers involved in the child welfare and juvenile probation systems utilizing approaches that validate and affirm LGBTQ+ identities. The YCS assists the child/youth and family/caregiver in the home, school, and community by providing a variety of supportive and case management services, some of which may include behavioral support, crisis intervention, mentoring, coaching, education, transportation, and other services that address overall needs. This position works with a population that is currently involved in the child welfare and/or juvenile probation system and has high rates of mental health, health, and substance-related issues. The ideal candidate must be familiar with and have experience with this population. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Develop a comprehensive, wraparound plan of care to assess and address the complex needs of youth involved in the child welfare and juvenile probation systems; document, track and evaluate outcomes; Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor provide leadership and promote high-quality service delivery within the program; Assist Program Supervisor with the oversight, compliance and development of the program; Provide support for team members needing ad hoc case conferencing; Provide a welcoming presence onsite for participants by answering questions, providing information and facilitating engagement opportunities; Provide a comprehensive continuum of homelessness prevention services , including outreach, employment preparation and placement assistance, education, individualized case management, housing navigation, housing location and retention, and other supportive services; Follow a framework of care goals and department protocols to ensure participant safety, provide crisis intervention and de-escalation along a spectrum of intervention techniques; Provide direct assistance with basic needs (meals, clothing, hygiene) and day to day program operations; Conduct intake and individualized needs assessments and collaborate with youth to develop a services and housing stability plan that addresses barriers to obtaining services, housing and healthcare; As the primary Point of Contact work in collaboration with a team of service providers in an effort to obtain, stabilize and maintain housing; Collaborate with other LA LGBT Center departments and outside organizations on youth events, resources and youth development opportunities; Plan and facilitate programming, events and activities utilizing a Positive Youth development framework that develops a sense of competence, usefulness, power and belonging among at-risk youth, youth experiencing homelessness, at-home/at-school youth and youth who see themselves as the leaders of the future; Conduct outreach and engagement; Complete general operational and administrative work such as compiling data, statistics, preparing reports, and drafting correspondence; Organize and maintain program files and materials through data entry and database maintenance; Assist with special projects as directed by management staff; Other duties as assigned. POSITION SUMMARY The Lead Residential Counselor supervises operations at The Center's emergency shelter, Safe STAY Wellness Center, serving transitional-age youth (ages 18-24). This role includes staff supervision and development of shelter staff, maintaining a safe and supportive environment, and ensuring continuous care for youth residents. The ideal candidate is trauma-informed, youth-centered, and committed to creating an affirming space that meets the physical, emotional, and health-related needs of all residents. This is a part-time position scheduled for 16 hours per week. This position is scheduled for awake overnight shifts on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Availability to be on-call for additional shifts as needed is preferred. PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide direct supervision and leadership to program staff, including staff development, data quality, performance evaluations, and training initiatives. Maintain an active staff presence during assigned shifts, including awake overnight coverage, to ensure consistent supervision and support. Coordinate staffing schedules and collaborate with the Youth Housing Manager to secure timely and reliable shift coverage during staff absences or schedule changes. Conduct routine safety checks, respond effectively to emergencies and crises Using trauma-informed de-escalation techniques and ensure timely and thorough completion of incident reports. Ensure supplies are stocked and reordered as needed. Support the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of new program staff to maintain a skilled and mission-aligned team. Ensure the facility remains clean, organized, and safe, and report any maintenance or safety concerns promptly. Maintain regular communication with supportive services staff to coordinate care, address challenges, and support each youth's individual needs.     The Peer Counselor, CalMHSA Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist for our Community Wellness Response Team (CWRT) program is responsible for the provision of field-based direct services and provides engaging peer support in a self-help format to individuals and their families working towards their recovery. The Peer Counselor uses their personal experiences to coach individuals and families through their wellness and recovery goals and plans. This work will entail all aspects of field-based service including needs for assessment, carrying out the plan of care, individual peer counseling and rehabilitation support, crisis support and referrals/linkages to more long term supports that promote an individual's wellness. The Peer Counselor will work independently and as part of a team and will manage their own schedule for the outreach, engagement, participant appointments, and extensive local travel that are pertinent to a participant's plan of care. The position will adhere to all regulatory productivity/direct service expectations. Our CWRT program operates 24/7, 365; providing in-field response to de-escalate and resource community members. CWRT is formerly known as Alternatives to 911. This innovative program works collaboratively with 988 and Sacramento County to provide urgent response for community members experiencing a mental health crisis to reduce the need for emergency services and provide community based resources. SCHEDULE: Sunday-Thursday/Tuesday-Saturday, NOC shift (12am-8:30am) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties are to be delivered in the field) * Ensures program offerings are welcoming, engaging, and barrier free from a peer perspective. * Provides mentoring (responsibility modeling) and shared experience counseling to participants and families where they are in the community. * First Outreach: Completes initial contact (phone, outreach, etc.) to new participants, either as part of a team or individually, to assess their initial eligibility and interest in service. Follows the approved priority system for eligibility. * Participates and leads street and other outreach to locate potential participants or to generate program referrals. * Participates in ongoing peer support visits with current participants on a regular determined basis according to program standards to support their continued engagement in service. * Provides individualized peer support, peer counseling, skill-building, and intervention based on the plan of care and individual needs of the participant as well as coordinated needs of the program. * Provides crisis support to individuals based on emergent needs of the participant as well as coordinated needs of the program. * Provides individualized linkages to other services based on the plan of care and individual needs of the participants as well as the coordinated needs of the program. * Provides orientation to self-help resources to program members based on recovery and wellness principles. * Maintains a defined caseload of participants as indication by the program design and team model. The NHMLAC is seeking a Counselor, Adventures in Nature for our Education & Programs department. The Counselor, Adventures in Nature position is responsible for assisting in developing, implementing and supervising recreational programs offered through the Adventures in Nature Day Camp. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: * Assists Instructor in the planning and facilitation of a creative schedule of activities for campers, using a pre-developed curriculum. Activities revolve around a natural or cultural history theme and include crafts, games and free time. * Supervises children during lunch periods and coordinates games and activities to keep them safe and entertained for this period. * Assists instructors in teaching and other classroom activities as needed. Helps assemble supplies for classes. * Supervises campers enrolled in extended care (morning and/or late afternoon) and coordinates games and activities to keep them safe and entertained for this period. * Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Manager, Public Programs dependent on organizational needs. This position has the following requirements: * A welcoming and personable attitude and the ability to interact effectively with children of all ages, their families, staff and other Museum visitors. * Experience working alongside staff with diverse backgrounds and serving diverse audiences. * Ability to plan and lead games and activities for elementary and middle school children. * Ability to relate to and communicate easily and effectively with children and adults. * Previous experience with summer camps or another informal learning environment with children and a general interest in natural history preferred. * High school diploma, GED and/or previously participated in the Adventures in Nature program. College or graduate students majoring in education, liberal studies, child development or museum studies preferred.
