This leadership role oversees the management of iconic wildlife populations, including Wyoming Range mule deer; Fall Creek, Afton, and Piney elk; Palisades mountain goats; and the Darby Mountain bighorn sheep herds. Although supervised through the Jackson Region, the position serves a unique district that spans both the Jackson and Pinedale Regions, requiring strong collaboration, coordination, and communication across regional boundaries.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.
* Plan, coordinate, and conduct large-scale data collection efforts, including big game classifications, involving multiple field personnel. Lead analyses using population data for game animals, including but not limited to information on population size and trend, herd ratios, distribution, movement and migration patterns, field checks of harvested animals, and mortality factors. Lead the coordination and development of hunting seasons designed to move animal populations toward established objectives, including the understanding and incorporation of public feedback. Collect data for disease surveillance and population monitoring for non-game, protected, and SGCN species.
* Develop initial comments and recommendations for regional wildlife environmental reviews regarding projects from county governments, state and federal agencies, and private landowners. Project recommendations are developed to minimize impacts to wildlife populations by recommending alternatives and mitigation.
* Represent the WGFD at public meetings. Develop and maintain effective working relations by communicating and coordinating with private landowners, state and local governmental agencies, project proponents, and NGOs to effectively communicate WGFD programs and policies. Present programs to civic and sportsperson organizations and schools. Routinely communicate with hunters.
* Respond to and appropriately handle injured and nuisance wildlife calls, which may require euthanasia of wildlife. Use chemical and mechanical immobilization equipment and techniques when necessary and appropriate. Use firearms to euthanize wildlife.
* Identify specific wildlife-related research needs for the assigned region. Develop project proposals, including methods and budgets, coordinate with researchers, write proposals to acquire funds, provide input and guidance to project personnel, collect data, write, review, and edit annual and final project reports.
* Assist in coordinating and conducting habitat management by evaluating wildlife habitat conditions, collecting data, and recommending improvements or projects to enhance wildlife habitat.
* Participate in WGFD-assigned species working groups and committee assignments, and assist with the development of regional planning efforts designed to meet the future needs of wildlife and the public. This includes participation in the regional implementation of the Wyoming Elk Feedgrounds Management Plan.
* Document and report daily activities, write annual and project reports, ensures budget and grant expenditures are within allocated amounts and in accordance with fiscal procedures. Maintains assigned vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and other technical equipment. Carry out other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES/AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Preference may be given to applicants with a Master's degree in wildlife management, wildlife habitat, ecology, or a related field, plus two years of professional work experience in wildlife management, wildlife habitat, ecology, or a related field.

ABOUT THE POSITION The BiologicalTechnician will work closely with the Senior BiologicalTechnician to support Chiricahua leopard frog (CLF) recovery and Mexican wolf conservation programs on Ladder Ranch. You will also be responsible for:
Providing husbandry support in the Chiricahua leopard frog breeding facility.
Conducting CLF population surveys and monitoring.

However, work schedules may vary depending on project demands, field conditions, and weather. Workdays and workweeks may be longer or shorter as operational needs require. Workweeks of up to 60 hours are not uncommon, particularly when assigned to projects away from the primary duty station. The July 4th and Labor Day holidays, along with reasonable vacation requests, may be accommodated but will be treated as unpaid leave.

This Field WildlifeBiologist role involves conducting biological surveys, preparing reports, and monitoring construction activities to ensure regulatory compliance. Your Opportunity
We are seeking up to four (4) exceptionally talented and enthusiastic individuals with a keen interest in the natural sciences to join our team to work on one project site in west-central Ohio and one project site in northwestern Ohio. This opportunity begins in April and runs through November 2026 with possible extension for a full year or more. Field work is estimated at 40 hours per week with the possibility for overtime. Must be comfortable with computers, tablets, and GPS units.
Ability to identify birds (including raptors) and bats of Ohio is preferred, but not required.
Field work will include walking long distances outdoors and will include exposure to the elements (i.e., sun, heat, cold, rain, mud, insects). Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Duties Description This Habitat Technician position will be based in Allegany, and will provide support in the Buffalo and Allegany Offices and includes the following duties: inspecting construction sites and wetland and stream violation sites to ensure compliance with conditions specified in NYSDEC Freshwater Wetland and Protection of Waters permits and consent orders, responding to inquiries from the public regarding the possible presence of NYSDEC-regulated wetlands and streams within particular properties and associated parcel jurisdictional determinations, answering questions from the public on Freshwater wetlands and Protection of Waters regulations, assisting with the delineation and verification of NYSDEC freshwater wetland boundaries, preparing wetland delineation maps within GIS, assisting with stream and waterbody site visits, including mussel assessments, assisting with the investigation of complaints about freshwater wetland and stream violations, maintaining organized electronic and hardcopy files, preparing compliance, parcel jurisdictional determination, and delineation letters, creating and maintaining databases, and updating the NYSDEC Region 9's comprehensive wetland and stream GIS shapefiles. Will supervise lower level staff.
Minimum Qualifications Three years of experience in fisheries, wildlife, or marine resources management; fish or wildlife propagation; a living marine resources program; or a fish, wildlife, or marine research program.
Substitution: one year of college coursework including at least 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources, wildlife management, or a related field, may substitute for one year of the experience described.
Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2026, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.

What You Will Do
As the Temporary Fisheries Technician, you will provide technical assistance with the monitoring of migratory fish (Atlantic sturgeon) in the Hudson River in cooperation with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's Hudson River Fisheries Unit located in New Paltz, New York. You will be responsible for data collection of fisheries independent surveys. Responsibilities include:
* Use of large meshed gill nets
* Operate outboard boats for deploying and retrieving gear
* Trailer boats to and from sampling locations
* Fish identification and enumeration
* Collect biological data and water quality data
* Data entry and quality assurance
* Prepare samples for age analyses
What We Need
We are looking for a talented individual with an excellent work ethnic, who appreciates the environment and working outside. Specifically, we need someone who has the following:
* High School Diploma and 6+ months of experience in agriculture, field biology, ecology, or a similar setting, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Will be expected to work flexible hours, occasional evenings, and weekends as job functions require.
* Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including the ability to retrieve sampling gears, which requires strenuous pulling and lifting.
* Able to maneuver in and out of boats.
* Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based work environment under challenging field conditions.
* Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.
* Must be able to meet the travel requirements of the position, and have reliable transportation as well as have and maintain a valid and unrestricted New York State driver's license.

Position Overview and Responsibilities:
Three technicians will be hired from mid-April to mid-August 2026 to assist with estimating abundance and density of black bears in northcentral Florida. No bears will be captured or handled. Duties include installing barbed-wire hair corrals and collecting bear hair samples following a strict sampling protocol, collecting bait and other supplies, entering and correcting data, and other duties as assigned. Technicians will build corrals in a 2-person team but check them alone. A typical work week is 10 hours/day over 4 days with 3 days off, but technicians may be required to work extra days as needed to stay on schedule. The job will be strenuous, requiring technicians to hike off-trail in harsh weather conditions (e.g., high temperatures and humidity) in areas with biting insects and venomous snakes. Field housing will be provided but food expenses will not be covered. Technicians will be driving agency vehicles during work hours but will need their own transportation for personal time.

What You Will Do
As the Temporary Fisheries Technician, you will provide technical assistance with the monitoring of anadromous river herring in the Hudson River in cooperation with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's Hudson River Fisheries Unit located in New Paltz, New York. You will be responsible for data collection of fisheries dependent and independent surveys. Responsibilities include:
Use large fishing gears (300-foot haul seine, 100-foot beach seine, gill nets and other types of fishing sampling gears).
Operate outboard boats for deploying and retrieving gear.
Trailer boats to and from sampling loctions.
Fish identification and enumeration.
Collect biological data and water quality data.
Data entry and quality assurance.
Prepare and mount fish scales for age analyses.
What We Need
We are looking for a talented individual with an excellent work ethnic, who appreciates the environment and working outside. Specifically, we need someone who has the following:
High School Diploma and 6+ months of experience in agriculture, field biology, ecology, or a similar setting, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Will be expected to work flexible hours, occasional evenings, and weekends as job functions require.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including the ability to retrieve sampling gears, which requires strenuous pulling and lifting.
Able to maneuver in and out of boats.
Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based work environment under challenging field conditions.
Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.
Must be able to meet the travel requirements of the position, and have reliable transportation as well as have and maintain a valid and unrestricted New York State driver's license.

Duties Description This position involves living and working on the NYSDEC Research Vessel Seth Green for extended periods of time (up to 10 days) including some weekends and overtime. They will be assisting in five approximately week-long surveys of fish communities using various gears including trawl and gill nets. The technician is responsible for learning standard operating procedures; retrieving and setting fishing or other sampling gear; processing catches including identifying, weighing and measuring fish; recording data quickly and accurately; and collecting and labeling biological samples. Other duties include assisting captain with general maintenance of research vessel, repairing fishing gear or other equipment; pressing fish scales, extracting and reading coded wire tags, extracting otoliths, and entering data. Other field and lab work may also be required as needed. Job includes travel per diem and may include overtime Must be able negotiate difficult terrain including ladders and work in adverse weather conditions including rough seas. Housing will not be provided when not on the boat.
Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography. Previous experience with fish identification, working on boats with fisheries sampling gear, equipment maintenance, and data entry will be preferred.
Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 11/30/2026. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Position Overview and Responsibilities:
Three technicians will be hired from mid-April to mid-August 2026 to assist with estimating abundance and density of black bears in northcentral Florida. No bears will be captured or handled. Duties include installing barbed-wire hair corrals and collecting bear hair samples following a strict sampling protocol, collecting bait and other supplies, entering and correcting data, and other duties as assigned. Technicians will build corrals in a 2-person team but check them alone. A typical work week is 10 hours/day over 4 days with 3 days off, but technicians may be required to work extra days as needed to stay on schedule. The job will be strenuous, requiring technicians to hike off-trail in harsh weather conditions (e.g., high temperatures and humidity) in areas with biting insects and venomous snakes. Field housing will be provided but food expenses will not be covered. Technicians will be driving agency vehicles during work hours but will need their own transportation for personal time.

Duties Description Support Lake Erie Unit staff with field sampling and data collection, serve as the primary deckhand aboard the R/V Argo, and will supervise sampling if needed.
