Reporting to the CEO, the Quality Management Specialist is responsible for establishing a company quality assurance system that promotes customer satisfaction and positively impacts the financial performance of WMI. This position champions continuous improvement efforts and reduction initiatives to establish an effective Quality Management System (QMS) and initiate and implement quality improvement activities as appropriate (e.g., Kaizen, Six Sigma) to raise the performance of the company's product lines. To do so, the QA Management Specialist will educate and train employees on their impact on the quality management system. This position will actively develop and maintain a superior workforce that supports the company's values and mission. It will also partner with the executive management team and the company managers to achieve the organization's goals.
Responsibilities
· Develop, implement, manage, and integrate a QMS for manufacturing plants.
· Serve as the primary quality control resource for problem identification, resolution, loss reporting, and continuous improvement.
· Support concurrent engineering efforts by participating in design development projects representing quality assurance and the customer.
· Design, implement, and document procedures for process control, improvement, testing, and inspection.
· Establish and implement metrics (process capability, control charts, measurement quality) for monitoring system effectiveness and to enable managers to make sound product quality decisions
· Perform root-cause analysis and other problem-solving activities to identify practical corrective actions and process improvements.
· Establish collection and analysis systems of statistical data to predict trends that will affect product quality improvement.
· Analyze customers' product specifications to establish efficient, cost-effective requirements for easy manufacture and reproducibility.
· Develop quality planning methods for all product lines.
· Develop process certification standards and assist in process certification.
· Monitor vendor performance and establish criteria and a rating system for critical vendors.
· Review customer purchase orders, contracts, and change requests, and ensure the necessary criteria and provisions are included in quality and process plans.
· Interact with customers to identify opportunities to improve quality and establish feedback with manufacturing and development personnel.
· Oversee calibration and testing programs.
· Report to management on quality issues, trends, and losses.
· Review suppliers' purchase orders and establish supplier quality requirements.
· Participate in internal and external quality audits.
· Interface with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems with quality control and ensure that effective corrective action is implemented.
Minimum Qualifications:
· BB/BA in Business or related field
· 5+ years' experience in QA systems implementation and management with 5 years as a CQE/CQM in a medium-sized manufacturing environment, preferably in the ceramics or metals industries.
· Experience in design/prototype manufacture.
· Six Sigma black belt certification with a proven business performance improvement track record is preferred.
· Proven ability to develop strong relationships and work with multiple levels of management
· Broad knowledge of theory and principles of statistics and statistical process control.
· Experience in designing and implementing quality systems.
· Diverse knowledge of inspection and control methods, techniques, and documentation.
· Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
· Strong computer skills, including quality control applications, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
· Thorough understanding of general safety requirements.
· Training in foreign object damage awareness.
· Understanding of MIL Standards.
· Travel on occasion.

· Set up and operate plate/section rolls to form steel to the required radii, diameters, and tolerances per drawings and work orders.
· Interpret shop drawings, flat patterns, and process travelers; verify dimensions with tapes, squares, and templates.
· Select correct pinch/roll sequence, back gauge positions, and machine parameters to minimize flats and achieve true roundness.
· Perform material handling with overhead crane and forklifts; use proper rigging, slings, and hooks per safe practices.
· Perform, tack, and partner with welders to ensure fit-up, alignment, and distortion control on rolled cylinders, cones, and segments.
· Conduct in-process inspections and document results (radius, diameter, seam gap, straightness).
· Deburr, mark, and stage completed parts; update inventory/system moves as required.
· Complete pre-shift equipment checks; report maintenance needs and assist with minor adjustments (roll alignment, lubrication).

Good eyesight or wear corrective lenses as seeing is essential to the job. Applicant must be able to have clear vision at 20 feet or more and have good depth perception to judge distance and space relationships.
Ability to read a tape measure.
Knowledge of compass directions.
Must be able to pass a stick or mig weld test prior to employment.
Certification preferred but not required.
1-5 years of welding experience preferred.
