Works effectively with auditors in locating various patient bills as required; demonstrates cooperation and responsiveness.
Maintains a current awareness of third-party reimbursement regulations and contractual arrangements with HMOs and PPOs.
Promotes good staffing practices by maximizing the utilization of human resources; forecasts and anticipates the personnel needs of the Department with regard to fluctuations in the projected workload; holds staffing at a functional minimum; effectively employs part-time help.
Organizes the Department in a manner that is consistently responsible to patient/customer needs.
Consistently demonstrates good organizational skills in the routine accumulation of statistical information and reports it to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in an accurate and timely manner.
Effectively coordinates the Patient Accounts function with Accounts Receivable, Registration, HIM and Nursing departments on a routine basis.

Job Summary: Provides initial contact with patients to evaluate and initiate appropriate treatment and location based on condition and Emergency Severity Index (ESI) algorithm. Ability to triage safely, rapidly, and accurately every patient that enters the emergency care system and direct patients to appropriate location of emergency department or fast track for continued assessment and care. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system.
Provides direct and indirect patient care in the emergency care and fast track setting. Provides care that reflects initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectation with a minimum of supervision. Communicates with Emergency Department and Fast Track Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers about changes in patient's status, symptomatology, and results of diagnostic studies. Ability to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Works as part of a professional team within the Emergency Department and throughout the hospital to provide patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Will be the first contact with patients checking into the emergency department system. Ability to quickly assess communication of patient hand off and collaboration between all staff inside the emergency system as well as throughout the hospital.
Uses the triage process to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients. Accurately assigns triage categories and documentation of initial triage, assessment, and interventions.
Initiate initial patient interventions and orders per condition, chief complaint, and coordination with providers.
Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment and focused assessments on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric patients, and the general patient population.
Nurse will work primarily in the Triage position. When patient flow and tempo indicate, nurse will be used as a float to help with additional patient care responsibilities included but not limited to the items listed below in both the emergency and fast track department.
Collects chief complaint as well as detailed patient history. Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
Ability to monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias, and treats appropriately.
Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's diagnosis and age.
Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. Capable of using resources to find additional guidance as needed. Follows the seven (7) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
Revises standardized ACI (Aftercare Instructions) based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning. Family is included in educating as appropriate.
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family.

Regulatory Requirements:
Associates or Bachelors degree of Nursing
Current Kansas State licensed Registered Nurse Licensure.
Minimum of 3 or more years of recent critical care or ED experience preferred.
Prior Triage experience and use of ESI preferred
BLS certification.
ACLS certification.
PALS or ENPC certification within six months.
Required TNCC within first year of employment.
Successful completion of Neonatal Resuscitation certification (NRP) within six months.
ABLS certification preferred.
