William Penn Charter School company history timeline

1887

When the first PC/GA football game was played in 1887, the ball was round, or very close to it.

The Inter-Academic League was formed in 1887, with Headmaster Richard Mott Jones providing support for PC, and GA teacher George H. Deacon and Headmaster William Kershaw acting for GA.

1892

The school began holding an annual Color Day in 1892.

1903

In 1903, William Penn Charter School acquired Pinehurst, a 35-acre property, from the estate of Clementine Cope.

1920

In 1920 Penn Charter moved from center city to accommodate the scholastic and athletic needs of a growing student body.

1924

When PC beat GA 57-0 in 1924, two of the school's greatest players ever were on the field, Marty Brill and Barney Berlinger.

1925

Penn Charter moved to its current forty-seven acre East Falls campus in 1925.

1938

GA won the 1938 game 6-0 with a thrilling score in the last five minutes.

1980

In 1980 the school once again opened its doors to female students.

1986

For the 100th anniversary game in 1986, the two schools worked together to create memorabilia.

2007

In recent years, PC won the 2007 football game with a thrilling final play, a hook and ladder pass from John Ryan, to Blaise Fullen, to Eddie Bambino for the game-winning touchdown.
