Williamson County company history timeline
Recognizing that the petitioners needed a seat of local government that was considerably closer to them than Milam County's, the Texas legislature established Williamson County on March 13, 1848, naming it for prominent judge and soldier Robert M. Williamson.
Georgetown, the county's largest town, serves as the county seat. It was founded March 13, 1848, and named for Robert McAlpin Williamson, a leader and veteran of the Battle of San Jacinto.
Almost wholly loyal to the South, Franklin and its surrounding communities suffered extreme hardships during Union army occupation from 1862-65.
The battle of Franklin was a bloody conflict fought on November 30, 1864, between the forces of Confederate General John B. Hood and those of Union General John M. Schofield.
The three-story, buff brick building was opened in 1911.
He initiated the useful biographical directories of state legislators in 1956.
However, only four–Franklin, Brentwood, Fairview, and Thompson’s Station–have been incorporated as of April 1996.
In 2020, there are 13 volunteers using their own equipment to mow grass, remove overgrown vegetation, and repair & level headstones.
The 2021 County Health Rankings, released March 31, deem the county as Texas’ second healthiest place to live among the 244 ranked counties in Texas.
